But didn’t we stop certain players being selected for the nations league final squad, specifically so that they could play in this tournament instead. In hindsight, probably not a good idea.

Did we? Who is in the current u21 squad that Southgate would have potentially picked?

I just find it interesting that other countries take a different approach and encourage players to represent their country at both levels.

How much better would we fare in such a tournament if we did the same? I think it makes sense personally.

It keeps the young players humble but also breeds familiarity, continuity and a sense of togetherness should more players follow them and make the step up.

It also gives us the best chance of winning such tournaments. Why enter if you don’t want to put your best foot forward and win?

The players with more experience can lead by example and guide the less established players. Playing with more established and seasoned players of a similar age can also elevate and bring out the best in the less established players too.

Look at the calibre of players that were eligible to play - Alexander Arnold, Chilwell, Gomez, Rice, Sancho, Rashford, Loftus-Cheek and Hudson Odoi (if both had been fit) - but probably never entered the conversation, and how can we be surprised at the outcome?

You make two or three of those players available and it would probably bring out more assured performances and you get less naivety in big games and the team becomes more streetwise.

From that list I would say there are only 2 that have actually earned the right to be playing at senior level. The others should all still be playing at u21 level.

Apparently it's okay for the keeper to come out and poleaxe a player with his knee at head height because they do that to protect themselves. So not a penalty says the dhead who is with the commentator on the Austria v Germany game. WTF is he on.

Isn’t that what the Leeds keeper did to Holmes this season? Just being consistent. No penalty. Keepers can kick as many people as they want in the head.

Yeah, but the guy challenging must have been about 6'5" not 5'5" even!

What exactly was it about being sacked by Coventry City & Northampton Town that qualified Boothroyd for this job anyhow?

Allowing Boothroyd to manage that squad, is like letting Stevie Wonder drive your Ferrari...

Boothroyd surely has to go after managing to take a squad with that amount of talent out with 0 wins in 3 games? Ridiculous.

The Fa won’t be able to justify paying him off, only just given him a new contract.

Boothroyd won’t walk, as he’ll now struggle to get another decent job after this debarkle

Loved his comments afterwards:-

"We've clearly got the talent - but talent needs some structure"

As nobody bothered to tell him that's his bloody job?!

Haha who does he expect to do the structuring for him!? It's one of the most talented under 21's we've ever had and Boothroyd is just not capable of managing them.

It's what Kelle should have done a few weeks ago.
