Day
Paul Green has been selected by the Republic of Ireland to attend their senior international summer training camp. The 27-year-old midfielder has firmly established himself as a key member of Nigel Clough's first-team and after recovering from injury in the autumn he has been a virtual ever-present. Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has had Green watched by scouts over the last few months and he is keen to take a closer look at the Rams number 4 up close next month. Trapattoni commented: "Training camps are useful for preparation as was proven by the one we held prior to our World Cup qualifying campaign. I look forward to working with these new players and learning firsthand what they have to offer as we begin to prepare for the European Championship qualifiers." The training camp will take place in Dublin between 16th-21st May as Trapattoni assesses his squad and prepares them for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualification campaign. Green is one of eight players in the twenty-three man squad without an international cap to his name. Should Green impress during the training camp, he could be selected for Ireland's international friendly fixtures against Paraguay and Algeria at the end of May. Derby County manager Nigel Clough said: "It is fantastic news for Paul and Derby County that his performances have been recognised with this call-up. "Paul has been a strong and consistent performer for us this season and we have been very pleased with his form. "It will be a great experience for Paul and something that will only benefit him as a player." Green qualifies for the Republic of Ireland through his grandfather on his mother's side. http://www.dcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10270~2035472,00.html?
