The Politics Thread 2019

Recommended Posts

Prior to Brexit, commentators and politicians were expressing fears that there was a general antipathy and lack of interest in political issues. they were bemoaning how bad it was for democracy. There were concerns about the low turn out in general elections and bi-elections, with more than third of registered voters not bothering to vote.

And younger voters were the least likely to vote. The ekderly and the senile were the most likely to vote.

All of which supports my theory that you don't have to be mad to vote, but it helps.

And this impression is reinforced by the fact that - in England - about 70% of the over 70s vote Tory. As your brain deteriorates you are more motivated to vote, and more motivated to vote Tory. Its like a Mad Cow disease. The retirees and the elderly are a danger to themselves and others. But even 1 in 5 younger people suffer this unfortunate condition too.

Really they should all have their car keys confiscated whenever there is an election is in the offing.

Go on then.

Express  Dec 2017

Brexiteer Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said: “When the EU is having to continually investigate itself it suggests all is not well in Jean-Claude Juncker’s federalised fantasy land.

"Thank goodness we’re leaving this busted flush of a bloc behind.”

The fraud office courted controversy when it refused requests to release a report relating to the 2015 VW “dieselgate” scandal.

VW had received a £350million loan from the EU’s bank to develop emission-reducing efficiencies, but was found to have cheated.

It later emerged the EU knew about the scandal but kept silent until US regulators acted.

All I typed in was EU BUSTED FLUSH.  This kind of proves that you can counteract any argument by finding something to back it up very easily.  No ones mind is going to be changed here.   Perhaps you could find a story by typing in FARAGES BREXIT SAUSAGES and see what comes up on Brexit roulette.  Let us know.

The idea was to leave the EU wasn’t it.

You want to stay in I want to leave.

I wanted to stay. But after the vote, though unhappy with the result. I accepted we were leaving and I'd go along with it providing it came with all those wonderful things that all the major leave campaigners said we could have. As May's deal and the no deal options give us none of the good things the brexiteers claimed leaving would bring. I think another referendum should be called for.

Perhaps we could just go back to this.  Obviously there may be a bit of turning the map around and it would be Brussels rather than Copenhagen ruling but I made my decision and am happy with it.  No more referendums thanks.

The Danelaw (/ˈdeɪnˌlɔː/, also known as the Danelagh; Old English: Dena lagu;[1] Danish: Danelagen), as recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, is a historical name given to the part of England in which the laws of the Danes held sway[2] and dominated those of the Anglo-Saxons. Danelaw contrasts with West Saxon law and Mercian law. The term is first recorded in the early 11th century as Dena lage.[3] Modern historians have extended the term to a geographical designation. The areas that constituted the Danelaw lie in northern and eastern England

So you just "think" the EU is a busted flush based on an opinion, nothing concrete.

Oh go on then

https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/15472794.the-eurozone-is-a-busted-flush-letter/

CHRISTIAN VASSIE’S vision of Europe would seem to be of a weak, vacillating Britain negotiating from a position of weakness, and a strong, virile European Union negotiating from a position of strength.

So let’s examine the facts.

The Eurozone is a busted flush held together by German financial muscle and largesse.

Portugal, Spain and Italy are walking a financial tightrope.

Greece is effectively bankrupt with no chance whatsoever of ever being able to pay back billions of loans to German and French banks.

And what vision of the EU do the bureaucrats of Brussels have for the future?

Tentative accession discussions with Turkey, Ukraine, Macedonia and Albania. What? Turkey isn’t even in Europe.

Is the EU going to become a political version of the Eurovision Song Contest?

Just imagine the EU’s borders would now be Syria, Iraq, Iran, Armenia, Georgia and Russia.

What do they say on the end of the Crimewatch TV programme after they’ve frightened the life out of you? Try not to lose too much sleep.

Remember this during Brexit negotiations. Just because it’s a rocky road doesn’t mean it’s the wrong road.

Be careful what you wish for.

Looks like another opinion. No statistics, no evidence, nothing to back up an opinion.

Yes that’s right

Hence why give a citation about a personal opinion as you asked for

No one person is right or wrong .

Just  because you cite  something doesn’t mean it’s correct it could be Fake News like the 39 Billion over 3 years before rebate given to the EU by the UK could be .

Wasn't the REBATE negotiated by Margaret Thatcher !

Honestly I can't be bothered to discuss with you as its all opinions without facts, and you're prepared to ignore facts presented as fake news. Enjoy your elephant, when it comes.

May realises the choice is between political suicide and economic suicide, or her deal which is probably both. It'll be dragged out as long as possible, because nobody wants to be the PM who caused any of the above.

Yes it is, it is a transcontinental country. According to this convention, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia have territory both in Europe and in Asia.

This tool is a bit of a thicko.

How would a citation be applicable to an opinion

It seems that your forecast if impending economic disaster across the EU may be based upon your own wishes, and not based in reality.

The latest economic forecasts, looking forward over the next three years, indicate that every single one of the other 27 EU countries will enjoy higher sustained economic growth compared to Britain.

I know that you seem to enjoy writing countries like Italy, Spain and Greece off, and equally you seem to resent the collective approach taken by the EU over the last decade that has helped them to put their economies back into some semblance of order (as opposed to just cutting them adrift and letting them sink or swim), but at least the economic forecasts indicate that their economies will be 'stable'.

A welcome contrast to the 'strong and stable' situation we are currently enjoying, of course.

Not all old, not all racist. Not all fools either - more apt to describe them as 'fooled'.

Some, yes.  However a lot where lied to.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jul/17/vote-leave-broke-electoral-law-and-british-democracy-is-shaken

https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/opendemocracyuk/high-court-found-that-vote-leave-broke-law-in-different-way/

https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/journalist/electoral-commission-media-centre/party-and-election-finance-to-keep/vote-leave-fined-and-referred-to-the-police-for-breaking-electoral-law

Therefore the law must be applied, and the result put to one side, the people behind it, punished and the referendum run again.  Anything short of that is also an illegal act.   What May is doing, right now, is probably illegal.

17.4 million out of a population of 66m, so 26% of the actual population.  46.3m can vote so 37.5% voted leave.  A lot didn't vote because they thought it was pointless, and a tory in-house fight....Then came the lies, brexit was the real project fear.

Happy to have another referendum even though we never left.

Bring it on
