The financial profile will be different when we have released a number of players this summer.

wages will be lower and the operating losses should be reduced but i doubt whether we would be able to afford more than 4 players @ £1.5m each  per annum before sales. Therefore i don't see wholesale changes. We are running out of players who can command a large fee so we'd better get use to players who cost one or two barkers.

And yet we splurged how many million this summer?

Nominal, at least that's the line being peddled. The accounts should clear it up, but the official line is that outgoings covered incomings and we reduced the wage bill. I think Ramnut was suggesting that we would spend roughly £6m above outgoings in the coming summer window.

Even if we do release roos, olsson, pearce, bryson, johnson, butterfield, huddlestone, martin, blackman, and nugent, etc, it looks as though the basis of the squad is already there, with 25-26 players including 10 or 11 graduates from the u23s, and only a few obvious gaps.

But there are lots of positions where the existing players have failed to fully convince that they are the answer.

It could all fall into place or it could yet all implode Sheffield Wednesday style.

A pittance compared to current football standards

Worth noting that Villa spent more than us and Forest more than double what we did, and how much did Stoke spend? - It's not a huge amount to spend in this league any more

No, maybe not. But if you've no FFP wiggle room might it have been better to put a bit by? We've still given out more new contracts to go forward with and probably only Mariott will see an increase in value?
