That would go for other loans aswell, just wouldn’t be able to play against parent clubs From the players’ perspective, yes of course. But from the clubs’ perspective? I am not convinced. There are so many variables at play.

We need to get in quick as he will be worth £15 mil this time next year! ? It really is so true, they are about to sell Benrahma and Maupay, 2 players the signed for not huge fees for a combined 20 plus million. Our transfer department is an embarrassment compared to what Brentford have to offer. It's what you get when you allow your scouts to scout abroad. Hogan, Hourihane, Mepham, Egan, and the goalie they have just sold to Bristol City were either British or Irish yet our scouting dept missed them too and they were sold for much more than they were bought.Brentford have never won anything of note, they play in a dilapidated stadium under the Heathrow flight path yet their ability to find and develop players has been brilliant whereas ours has been abysmal. Splitting hairs, but Hourihane was from Barnsley. He's never played for Brentford.

But you can add to the list Konsa and Sawyers. They have generated a phenomenal amount of money some of which undoubtedly covers their operating costs and the cost of their new stadium and you can argue that they haven't achieved Premier league football. However they have a strategy and it works. I can't see that Derby have had much of a strategy. We have had the off player come through from the academy such as Hendrick, Hughes , and Bogle but it has hardly been a production line. Most of the time it appears we have thrown money at it. It is true to say that Brentford and Norwich have been very smart in the transfer market. Norwich were relegated from the Premier League, had to sell players, had also spent a lot of money on duffers such as van Wolfswinkel and Wildschut, recovered and stabilised the finances, recruited a good coach, and good players at reasonable prices, brought through players from the academy, and got promoted. Sounds like a recipe for success! Leeds have also in the main been smart at recruiting players. Liam Cooper cost them £500,000 from Chesterfield for instance! As you pointed out, Norwich signed a bunch of duffers, but now they are promoted you are applauding their strategy which is the point of my previous post. Every strategy is criticised until the club goes up unless you’re Brentford. Leeds might have been smart signing Liam Cooper, but they also spent £7m on Patrick Bamford. Duane Holmes, Jacob Butterfield. We could sit here all day and go through great and horrendous signings, every club has made them and attacking the clubs transfer strategies is common across all football club forums. Whilst many admire Brentford’s transfer strategy I would be frustrated as a fan that they cannot sustain a promotion push. We argue back and forth on this forum over entertainment v result, at Brentford it would be at least we made £25m profit last year, I’m not an accounted, I’m a football fan.
