Reckon we have a squad of

Carson (Roos - will sign with an eye on Carson retiring soon?)

Boyle (Wisdom) Davies (Tomori- another loan) Keogh Malone (Lowe)

Huddlestone (Evans)

Bird Holmes (Palmer - still think we’d have gone for him if we hadn’t got Mount for the ‘mount’ role)

Waghorn (Thomas)  Marriott (Martin) Lawrence (FloJo)

With Bennett, MitchellLawson and Forsyth left over.

Gives a squad size of 23.

Feel like the additions I’ve chosen are very realistic and affordable. Feel like we probably need to strengthen further for another push but Jody and Frank have better loan contacts than me.

Probably lightest in the central midfield roles.

So incoming Palmer and Tomori plus others.

Thoughts?

Carson is only a year older than Keogh and Huddlestone so I doubt he'd be retiring for another 3/4 years.

Palmer and Tomori would be absolutely incredible signings if we stay down

I’m not suggesting the squad is ready, just what we’re realistically going to be left with and realistically how some gaps could be filled.

Oh of course - I was just responding to your 'thoughts' question 🙂

I actually think wide options is the one place we're covered now - Lawrence, FloJo, Bennett, Waghorn and then Thomas coming back and youngsters like Mitchell-Lawson coming through (he looked confident when he came on)

I'd be seriously focused on young CBs and almost any CMs

At the moment (without any contract renewals or transfers, we'll be left with this...

GK: Carson, Mitchell, Ravas

RB: Bogle, Wisdom

CB: Keogh, Davies

LB: Malone, Lowe, Forsyth (will he return predominantly as a CB due to injuries?)

DM: Bird, Evans, Thorne

CM: Holmes

RW: Bennett, Thomas

LW: Lawrence, Jozefzoon, Anya

CF: Marriott, Waghorn, Martin

CB, CM are obvious areas we need to recruit. If Roos doesn't sign an extension then a GK too.

Keogh (33), Davies (34) and Forsyth (30) will mean a younger CB will be coming in - Tomori seems likely as he still needs to improve in the air

Holmes as the only attacking mid means we will need more bodies in this area

Fair enough, might be forced to with more frequent injuries and form dipping.

 Very true.

CM is despairingly thin on the ground

And to think we started the season with Huddlestone, Johnson, Ledley, Bryson, Butterfield and Thorne, recruited Holmes and Evans, and promoted Bird... one thing we can say is the club will have a much healthier wage bill next season.

Thats why we should shift lawrence.

we seem to have loads of wide midfielders.

If we stay down id like us to go for someone like John Ruddy. Dont know how realistic it is but he’s 32, behind Patricio & not getting first team football at the moment.

I like carson but he’s not been at his best this year. Roos is a good shot stopper & has done well but dont like the way he stays on his like for corners etc.

Also a replacement striker for nugent & to share the load with Marriott would be nice. Not sure who but a big target man we can lump it up to that can hold it up as a plan B & win headers would be nice

Roos, bogle, malone, keogh, ?, ?, holmes, lawrence, Thomas, marriott, waghorn

carson, wisdom , Lowe / MacDonald, davies, forsyth, evans, bird, sibley, elsnik, bennett, ?, mitchell-lawson, mcallister, cresswell, whittaker,

In theory, we might not need a lot of new players. Perhaps 3 ? We could even have a third of the squad being academy graduates.

i expect we will be quite active in the transfer market, but it wouldn't bother me if we tried one season of sticking primarily with what we've already got. Thats what ffp was trying to force clubs to do. Be self-sufficient. live within your means. There have been times in the past when the club used lots of local players. it wouldn't bother me. Not sure that the other fans would accept it. Nor frank?

(Unfortunately we ended up in the third division north last time 😫).

It wouldn’t bother me either. Uncle Mel is tightening his wallet and I don’t blame him for doing so. If I were in his shoes I would be keen to widen the pathway to the 1st team for our young Academy players.

No contract renewals, no new loans, we go with what we have. A possible team would be:

                   Roos/Carson

Bogle,    Keogh,     Davies/Forsyth/Wisdom,   Lowe/Malone

              Bird,   Evans

Thomas/Bennett,    Holmes,     Lawrence/McAllister

                 Waghorn/Marriott

Other options include:  Mitchell-Lawson and Sibley

B4 would love it but I wonder how many games before the fans start screaming....
