I ask you who you consider managerial geniuses so I can see who you rate more highly than him.

I'm only 37 so have only witnessed one managerial genius, and that is Sir Alex Ferguson.

I think the wage bill is a much better indicator than transfer fees, with Man City 2nd and Liverpool 4th highest then both have exceeded expectation relative to the value of their squad. When you consider just how far ahead they were, too, it's hard not to argue that they aren't geniuses. The money in the game is all relative, as most teams are making profits now.

Man City 1st (2nd) +1
Liverpool 2nd (4th) +2
Chelsea 3rd (3rd) =
Tottenham 4th (6th) +2
Arsenal 5th (5th) =
Manchester United 6th (1st) -6
Wolves 7th (14th) +7
Everton 8th (7th) -1
Leicester City 9th (10th) -1
West Ham 10th (8th) -2
Watford 11th (13th) +2
Crystal Palace 12th (9th) -3
Newcastle 13th (17th) +4
Bournemouth 14th (12th) -2
Burnley 15th (18th) +3
Southampton 16th (11th) -5
Brighton 17th (16th) -1
Cardiff 18th (20th) +2
Fulham 19th (15th) -4
Huddersfield 20th (19th) -1

A quick look during our last stint in the Premier League actually shows almost perfect parity of the haves and havesnot. Three teams spent over £100m a season on wages - United, Chelsea and Arsenal - all finished in the top three. Three teams spent less than £35m on wages - Reading, Birmingham and Derby - all finished in the relegation spots.

Won’t that be based on last 17/18 squads as the accounts for this season won’t be out until next year?
