ronnieronalde
Is Cristiano Ronaldo. I personally think it's beyond doubt. It's such a shame Messi didn't come over for a couple of seasons. There's no doubt he would have been brilliant and scored goals for fun but we'll never know just how good he could have been. That's why I think Ronaldo is the world's best player. He's gone everywhere. He's done it everywhere. Club and Country. There are no nagging doubts on any level. (playing wise) Only trophies, records and goals galore. Rev
Shearer. Goals goals goals, of every type from everywhere, and only a couple of season's playing for the very top club.
Sexydadbod
Sorry mate but Cristiano is nowhere near as good as Messi and Ronaldo’s paranoia of Messi suggests deep down he knows it too. Messi couldn’t care less about the rivalry with Ronaldo and appreciates all great players whereas Ronaldo gets triggered everytime someone mentions that Messi is better. Look at what Suarez did in an average Liverpool side(almost single handedly helping them to win the league before Gerrard slipped), yet when suarez arrived at Barcelona, he was in awe at what Messi could do. When Barcelona played spurs earlier this year , Messi was probably at around 50% of his level yet Spurs fans said it was the greatest performance they have ever seen against a spurs side. As for GRaeme Souness’ comments, David Silva isn’t half overrated for someone who is claimed to be underrated. A very good midfield player but his lack of influence in big games like last night suggests that he isn’t an all time premier league great. Cristiano is probably the most talented player to have ever played in the premier league but Thierry Henry is the premier league goat
cannable
Depends how you look at it. Henry in the Premier League. Peak Ronaldo was better than Henry but in La Liga.

IlsonDerby
Henry, Ronaldo, Vieira, Ferdinand & Schmeichel would be my premier league era 5 aside team. Maybe this is worth a separate thread mind. I’ll let the Mods decide ?
AdamRam
Messi always performs in the top games mainly because for the majority of his domestic season he only has to play at walking pace as the league is that slow. He also has the added benefit of playing for a side that has so many talented players that it gives him space to perform. There is no doubting his talent and he has rightly been awarded player of the year in the past, however when a WC comes around he hasnt quite got the mentality to grab the game like he can when he has so many stars around him. Probably not used to the contrasting styles of football given he has never stepped out of the Spanish league and their walking pace football. So many players to pick from for the PL, CR was good, but not sure he would top my list at that stage of his career.
Sith Happens
Ronaldo is probably the best ever that has played in the PL. But not when he was in the PL. Would say for impact you have to look at cantona or Bergkamp.

You really have no idea, all the statistics suggest that the Spanish league is the most intense league in the world in terms of physically demanding and intensity, stop listening to sky sports. Most intense league stats out of the “big 5” leagues from last season. You’re confusing it with Serie A. Also when Messi was younger, his pressing was so good under Guardiola but it went unnoticed because of his technical ability. The World Cup has less quality than the champions league, it’s not Messi’s fault that Argentina’s FA are corrupt and therefore don’t pick the best players like leaving Icardi out of the squad. RadioactiveWaste
The Premier league is uniquely physically demanding is an untruth pedalled as both the reason fir the England team failing at World cups (mostly) and for the winter break (for top clubs to arrange show matches in Asia and America). All the top leagues are demanding.

Also Le Tissier -goes under the radar a bit as he played for Southampton and looked like he couldn't be arsed sometimes, but I would back his top 20 goals to make Ronaldo's top 20 look 2nd division. Come on, i play football every week and would return good stats, however if you watched it you would see the football is nearly at walking pace that makes it a lot easier to do. I’m not saying the PL is the best, Messi isn’t the second or third best player in the world, or the Spanish league is not a good league, just that the physical and mental demands on that league are a lot less. As pep said, the PL is the toughest in the world. Messi will be remembered as being a great at Barcelona, the Spanish league and CL, CR will be remembered as a great in several leagues at several clubs with winners medals at international level. Still an impressive achievement by Messi, bit like Steve Bull at Wolves.
