$110m guaranteed for Jared Goff!

Think he's pretty overrated personally but QBs make mad money just for not being calamitous ?

Thoughts, @Bob The Badger ?

I'm glad we got him locked up and he has got better every year.

He's still young too, 2-years younger than Wentz and even younger than Trubisky. Wentz played an extra 2 years in college to Goff.

He suffered under Fisher, but then again Fisher couldn't get anything out of Foles or Keenum.

The two things he has that you can't teach are accuracy and poise -plus he *seems* to be able to avoid injury unlike Wentz.

In response to @Srg's comment. Sean McVay is about as laid back, respectful and calm as any HC I have seen in the time I've been watching going back to 1985 - he was even that way after the Super Bowl.

The only time I can remember him losing that calm and being visibly annoyed was when a reporter asked him is Goff was a system QB.

I cannot remember exactly what he said, but he kicked off by saying that people who say that really don't understand the game and then went on to explain why every QB is a system QB and why it means nothing to say that.

I haven't got a  strong opinion, and as you alluded @Srg, who cares is all he does is win games?

I know this though. I'd rather have him than Prescott or Wenz. I really don't rate Prescott as being much more than a top 20 QB, and Wenz already has a worrying injury history and the back problems would really have me concerned.

I don't know if any of you guys have read the 'Your team sucks' articles on Deadspin, but they are hysterical.....presuming it's not your team they are shredding that is.

You may want to avert your eyes @SaintRam

The New Orleans Saints

Read it over the weekend ?

Oh but they released the Rams one yesterday! I'll give that a read.

I didn't think the Rams one was the best. I did laugh out loud a few times but I wonder if some unconscious defensiveness crept in?

There  a good element of truth, especially around Gurley. Although I guess they wouldn't be funny if there wasn't any hint of reality.

The only way that will happen is if Cousins has a deep run into the playoffs IMO.

I like him, but the criticism of the money he's getting paid was always in relation to the success of the team rather than himself, at least that's what I usually took from it.

True, my annoyance is probably more at a section of the Vikings fan base that relentlessly hate on the guy, and bleat on about how much he gets paid continuously.

Sensible criticism is fair enough. For me this is the season he has to prove he’s worth the money. The o line that was terrible has been addressed and we have more depth & play makers at WR, TE and RB this season, so he needs to deliver.

as for Goff, if you’ve got a QB who is delivering, especially a young one, pay the man so you keep him.

That's one thing I've really enjoyed about following the Saints is that there's basically no internal hate for players. Tons of outside hate, but its quite a contrast from here with all the player bashing that goes on.
Although only being part of small Saints social groups is probably a big factor in my experience.

I came across the UK Vikings fan club a year ago, which was great as it’s a really good environment to talk football compared to the bigger Vikings groups, especially the official social media outlets, which make Derby’s ones look like happy hour ?‍♂️?, but we are by no means all happy clappers either

It’s surprised me how big the Vikings are over here, we take in the European fans as well and it’s growing really fast. Starting this season we became only the 2nd “official” NFL supporters group in the UK....my understanding is that means, recognised & has a relationship with the organisation, which we are starting to see already and is really cool. The Jags were the first.

The Rams are really small in the UK, it's actually irritating how difficult it is to get merchandise. I think for most Derby fans looking towards the NFL it's such an obvious choice, it was for me. I got involved when they were doing well, which obviously helps. I get the impression that The Rams are effectively the Manchester City of the NFL. I like Man City too.

More and more places are selling NFL merchandise, whether that’s the likes of sainsburys/Argos with the t shirts or specialist places that keep popping up. If the game continues to grow, hopefully it will get better. There’s always some Vikings stuff, but the jerseys are known to sell out, which is annoying when there’s always a million Rodgers jerseys that obviously no-one wants...??

I started watching them in 84 (I think) just after they drafted Eric Dickerson and it seemed a no-brainer to me too when I was looking for a team.

In those days of John Robinson we were very much a running team, and a good one at that, but always struggling to get past the great 9ers teams of that era.

Being a Rams fan in the 90's was truly horrible - until that 99 season we were literally the worst team in the NFL for that entire decade.

Then it seemed like I was on acid for 3-years before we slipped back from whence we came.

Now it's good times again and I'm hopeful with such a young QB and HC that we can start to maintain it and be a real force.

Having said that, I'm flying up to Charlotte on Friday to go to the opener against the Panthers and I'm nervous as hell!

Nervous about Gurley's knee. Nervous about our O line. Nervous about whether Goff will bounce back after the Super Bowl. Nervous about Kupp being given too much too soon. And nervous about melting in a bowl of a stadium with no cover and expected 90 degree heat.

Other than that I'm the epitome of calm.

Henderson was drafted to cover Gurley's mileage, no doubt about that. Gurley will be a redzone threat - I'd imagine that he will be up there with rushing touchdowns, if not the rushing yards. The OL is the biggest concern for me. We've lost experience and we're going with some unproven talent - particularly at the centre.

I think we'll have too much for the Panthers. I'm going Rams to win by more than 7 points.

Panthers D-Line is superb, your O-Line will need to be on their game. It'll be an interesting game that, I really rate the Panthers this season and fully expect a proper fight between them and the Saints for the NFC South.

Every single Head Coach in the league would argue their guy (if a franchise QB) isn't a system QB, though. You can't digest coach-speak and have it as fact. He could be right, of course, but the whispers are there for a reason and a career taking a huge up-turn when one of the best offensive minds of the current generation turns up is no coincidence.

But again, you don't care if he does win games. He's a QB McVay can win with, but I fully believe McVay is more important to the Rams than Goff is right now.

If you're talking pure talent, Wentz is a far better QB than Goff is.

Dak's reportedly gunning for $40m a year; that's insane. If every new above average QB deal is going to be gunning to be #1, it feels like the annual cap increase is just going to be lost in giving QBs more.

The bigger issue is the Rookie Wage Scale here. Just gives such a mammoth advantage to teams with QBs who are new into the league and haven't been resigned. It's the championship window for most teams now... tank as much as conceivably possible, draft your guy, then use the massive cap space to build an absolute unit around him.

Expect it to be tackled in the next CBA - expecting heavy performance based pay adjustments coming in for rookies or something like that.

For sure.

I'm curious as to the Saint's plan for post-Brees. This is probably his last year. Bridgewater/Hill could probably keep the team competetive-ish with our strong defense; but as you say with how valuable a good QB on a rookie contract is I'm curious if there's a plan to get a high pick - whether through tanking 2020 or trading.
We have to pay Kamara in 2021 - I doubt we'll be able to afford a decent non-rookie QB as well, with MT on #1 WR money.

Haters gon hate. We've got a good group and the flex with cap space so they're worth it. Tank, Collins and Zeek all worth the money. Jury is out on Dak but we believe he's our guy so why not, wasn't too long ago he was offensive rookie of the year.

Tbh I'm about as interested in the amount NFL players get paid than I am about cheesegrating my ballsack. Bradley Johnson on 35k a week is offensive to me but $40 million for Dak... nah.

Anyone better than Fitzgerald, Tate, Stills & Tyrell Williams or similar levels?

Probably not at this stage. It's all hope for Hill at the moment, you may have got that in a few weeks though.
