The Leftback Conundrum

With the news Malone is out for 4-6 weeks the annual injury crisis hits again. As it stands we have no fit left backs at the club, not a single one.

Lowe: 1-2 weeks away injured, that could yet mean longer

Fozzy: Done for the season

Olsson: certainly not going to be match fit until the end of January at best

Macdonald: unknown length of time injured, currently the under 23's left back.

Even with Lowe back hopefully pretty soon it seems someone will have to come in for at least the short term. Lowe has been known to get injured a fair bit so we need cover.

Perhaps a romantic return to the arms of Frank for Ashley Cole? Maybe another Chelsea unknown as cover? Maybe we'll find another Fozzy hidden in the lower leagues/fringes of the championship?

We're having a bad time with injuries.

Add Davies out for the season and Bennett for 4 months or so. Evans has already missed about 3 months too.  Imagine if we actually had that senior squad of 23 players that was talked about earlier in the season.

I guess Anya is still getting a good wage and played left back for us before and for Scotland and hears a thought he is left footed, now theres a thing

Mark

Frank’s sent out a clear message. If they aren’t part of his plans, they won’t play.

Also, Anya is predominantly right footed

The most frustrating thing here is the Callum McDonald situation. He has been around the first team squad sporadically for a couple of years, is one of the few regulars across a year and a half of successful U23 football and is very highly rated at the club. With four left backs at the club at the start of the season he must have doubted he would ever get his chance. Now it has come and he is unavailable. The lad must be gutted.

I'd love to see 3 at the back and play wing backs but it would be a massively brave (some might say crazy) decision from Lamps and I doubt he would change it without the team being used to the formation.

Yes , he has always put in a decent shift when he plays , not very quick , but with Tomori beside him ....

....he'll still be slow?
