Overrated Players

Gerrard was massively over rated. Had a few big games that went chaotic and his headless chicken style worked (cup final vs West Ham, champs league).

No tactical discipline and spent most his time playing for England overhitting overly ambitious passes and performing poorly. Should have been dropped if he couldn't fit into a system for the likes of Butt, Scholes or Carrick.

Liverpool were pretty average during his time there. His mis-control (rebranded as a slip) vs Chelsea cost them the league.

No fan of them but........16F10DD6-74CE-4804-A188-03B9F57E9779.thumb.jpeg.84168947ea6fc254ffb284f2f2ce432d.jpeg

Past players:

Zidane- Great player who had great moments but lacked consistency to be regarded as one of the true greats. People forget that he was just as inconsistent as a modern day Pogba in the week in, week out game. Nedved was better in my opinion after Zidane left.l Juventus.

Vidic- Again, a very good player but people talk about him as if he’s the greatest premier league centre back ever but he always got destroyed when against elite strikers or quick strikers like Torres and often got sent off as a result

Present players:

Vincent Kompany- Mistake prone, is very reckless and is poor in big games.

Fernandinho- Someone on TV called him the best midfielder in the world! No way at all, he is too fragile mentally, bottled it completely with Brazil two world cups in a row(the 7-1 defeat and the loss to Belgium) and the champions league loss to Liverpool. Brazil with Casemiro and Brazil with Fernandinho when Casemiro was suspended, it’s no contest as to who was better.

Hazard- Very good player but lacks consistency to be considered a true great player in the world

Lewandowski- I loved watching him at Dortmund but his game has regressed so much since joining Bayern. Guardiola turned him into a poacher, nothing more.

Harry Maguire- Living off a few headers in the World Cup. Week in week out for Leicester he isn’t great. Joe Gomez is much better for England.

De Gea- He’s a great shot stopper but doesn’t really offer a lot more other than that to be regarded as the best in the world; exposed heavily with Spain

Our past and present players:

Bryson- Lives off that Forest hat trick imo and gets away with much more by Derby fans as a result.

Johnny Russell(latter years)- at one point in the season (16-17 season) , his goal/assist ratio was worse than Camara and Blackman’s.

Buxton- Lots of enthusiasm, not better than Keogh in that team.

Lukaku has been awful this season, but I don't think you can talk down his record.

He's hit double figures in the Premier League in every season he's been in England, including a struggling West Brom. He's also the highest scorer in Belgium's history - 45 goals, the second highest is on 30 to put it in perspective. The majority of them have come in competitive matches too, not friendlies. The guy only turned 25 in the close season too. He's got another 6-9 years left if he stays fit and looks after himself. At the moment, he does look to heavy and has been a shadow of himself. Strange considering the form he showed at the world cup.

Yeah, but his record vs the top 6 in the Prem is shocking. The guy is a flat track bully, he can score vs the bottom dwellers but vs top quality defenders he is totally outclassed.  Considering the strikers United has had in the past, Lukaku isn't even in the same league as even the likes of Berbatov and Tevez, let alone the players before that. His touch is awful, and whilst he seems to be physically strong, he doesn't win enough headers.

The England 2018 WC team,

Beat a pub side (Panama) another not much better (Tunisia), scraped past a half decent side missing their best player (Colombia) and won ok against a v ordinary team (Sweden).

The only decent teams they came up against they didn't really get anywhere near.

(Puts tin hat on..........)  ?

Agree but the wc was worth it to beat the cheater barstewards of Columbia. Give them joy and hope with a late equaliser then demoralise them with penalty win ?

I actually think Southgate is building a half decent team- We've looked competitive in the nations league thing.

But all the "It's our best world cup since...." stuff was just ott. We got a long way because of a favourable draw, Not scintillating performances.

Nah Lukaku is one of the first names I though of for this thread. Highest scorer in Belgium's history? Big deal, I bet Branco Strupar is in the top 5. Manu need a new striker - Lukaku is not their Drogba.

Jack grealish - excellent player.  Carries the ball well allowing villa to break. And then times the pass perfectly. Even when there are defenders snapping around his ankles only 1m away, he still retains controlled possession. Absolutely must play for england.

Duncan mckenzie - great player. Would love to have seen him paired with charlie george. Clough only signed him to stop us getting him.

James maddison - total knob but a good player.

Jayden bogle - outstanding for an 18 year old. people can't see that he and malone are under instruction to push up and that this is what leaves space behind them. We play with wing backs in a back four. Will get better and better over the next few years.

George thorne - no idea why frank is freezing him out. Its the only thing about the new regime that i find distasteful. The poor bugger has battled back from injuries, and deserves a chance.

Bryson, russell and buxton - all three were great competitors who could be relied on to give 100%. Three players for £1.1m. All good signings. Great value for money.
