FA Chief Executive, Martin Glenn, said: "Earlier this year, The FA received an unsolicited official offer from Shahid Khan to buy Wembley Stadium. It was a very credible offer and was given very serious consideration.

Shahid Khan has informed us today that he will be withdrawing his offer to buy the stadium – and we fully respect his decision.

I didn't really understand the complaints against selling it. The FA never owned the original Wembley, did they?

Obviously there was trepidation as to whether the money would go into grassroots football or not, but if it were to do so it should've been a no-brainer.

Don't really understand this tbh having read the link.

Sounds as though the FA etc failed to act with sufficient enthusiasm to the offer and he's flounced - is that a fair summary?

Maybe there wasnt enough brown envelopes involved.

It was the grassroots who questioned the wisdom of selling Wembley to pay for the roll out of 3g pitches nationally, as I understand it.

While welcoming the initial investment, once they'd asked who would pay for the £20k cost of removing such pitches in 10 years time at the end of their lifespan, and then who would pay a further £100k for a replacement pitch, they weren't convinced by the FA managements answers.

I think Gary Neville has suggested a levy on agents fees to pay for such work going forward, which seems fair enough.

I wasn’t that bothered wether they sold it or not to be honest. My problem was how much they were selling it for. How can you build something In London for £800m and then sell it for £600m 10 years later?! That’s just not how property works anywhere else in the world.

Don't know what you mean, old boy,

the Olympic stadium was so bad that west ham had to be given exceeding ffavourable tterms....

The Olympic stadium was built for a month long tournament that was it. If a football team didn’t move in it would be derelict in a few years time if they could have broke even on it they would have been happy but they fudged that deal up as well. Everything at Wembley is already in place. England games, play off finals, NFL, European championship semis and finals. Shad Khan is a business man he wouldn’t have been buying it if he couldn’t make a poo ton of money out of It.

Neville has a point, but it’s the agents who negotiate these players obscene amounts of money and in his case wage increases.

Put a levy on the Agents, but also any player who gets a weekly wage over a set amount maybe? Say £100k a week?

all in good time if Brady gets her way

saw a clip of her the other day spouting off something about how the City of London stadium could/should be used for much more than just football and that West Ham were "ready to help". Which i interpreted as "give us some more cash and we might put on some tawdry events if it makes the porn barons even more loot".

Righto. ?

The deal offered made little financial sense anyway. Dreadful financial mismanagement of the original project and the Burton complex have made the FA strapped for cash, but this wouldn't have got back the original costs and the FA may well have had to pay back some of the grants they'd received to help build Wembley for the nation.

Had the sale gone through, you only get this money once and I would not have trusted the FA to spend it wisely. Glad it's fallen through.

Spot on, you know all the suits at the FA would have spent half of it on plush hotels and expenses while they had 'workshops' to determine what to actually do with it.
