loweman2
The ball from the Derby v Chelsea 3rd round league cup, the night it all clicked, the night the Clough and Taylor era really got going, up from the second division into the first, take it by storm, win the championship and then into Europe and the semi final ! Incredible to think that this ball is 50 years old next month !

I used to love the way the “ come on Derby, come on Derby” chant reverberated around the BBG! Especially on a midweek game, very atmospheric! Up the Rams ! If you weren't at the match, you knew when we'd scored you could hear the roar from miles away, round the town! #COYR

First my dear old dad and then later me driving home at a rate of knots to get back to Brum in time for Sportsnight at 10 pm. For you young uns kick offs were 7,30 pm, half time was 10minutes and the matches finished at 9.10pm, unless it was an ambulance case on the pitch. The good old days.? Night matches at the BBG were fantastic occasions in the early seventies. Coming from Chesterfield I had to leg it back to the station for the last train which left at 10 past 9 . This meant leaving the ground around 15-20 minutes from the end of the match. Gut wrenching ! It wasn't until I was old enough to drive that I saw a whole game at night, & that was around 1977, just as the bad times were starting. 2 night games from the early seventies give particularly great memories. The first one was the last game of the season against Liverpool in May 1972, the game that ultimately won us the league. I was 13 years old & in the kids pen with a couple of school mates (1 a neutral & the other a Liverpool fan who kept quiet). We had to leave just after McGovern got the winner, otherwise there were all sorts of consequences to face, it was around 10 to 9. My abiding memory is of around 3,000 scousers locked outside the ground who had travelled without tickets. It was only when I got home at around half 10 that my mum & dad (who weren't football fans) confirmed that we'd won. A week later the Leeds & Liverpool results went our way & we were champions of England ! Unfortunately I missed out on tickets for the Benfica & Juventus games but managed to get one for Real Madrid in 1975. By now I was a fully grown up adult of 16. Me & a mate were on the Ossie end for that fantastic occasion., but had to leave for the last train at 3-1, thus missing Charlie's penalty for his hat trick. Got to see it on Sportsnight when we got back though. I'm 60 now & still get the buzz of going to the Rams, all home & some away. There's been some good & a lot of bad since those times but nothing can take away the memories. Thanks for bringing some of them back on this thread loweman 2. Standing front row, middle, next to that post under the clock having walked from Chester Green with my friend Robin. It was easier to get front row standing in 1966. Still managed to get a seat there though when they put seating in. Can still see Hector and O'Hare bearing down 2 on 1 on Lawrence (I think) the Liverpool goalkeeper to make it 4 - 0 !! Great days.. Ditto for me but in the Normanton end ,my dad and grandad used to get me there early and I would stand at the front of the middle tier standing on a three legged stool [top of a dolly peg] for those old enough to remember . 1958 aged five ,once a Ram always a Ram. We all agree Mathews is better than Yashin, and Hector is better than Eusabio, and Portsmouth are in for a thrashin. Anyone remember singing that one, great times.
