He didn't really deserve that much abuse, he played great in the first game. Still a poor time to make that sort of mistake.

If I remember rightly, the circumstances at the time didn't help. I seem to remember that on the way to the game, we heard that we'd failed to get a winding up order delayed and it was felt that getting to Wembley was the only way to save the club. I don't think many thought the club would still be in business by the end of the season, after we lost that game. It was probably the lowest point of supporting Derby.

Cherry was then quoted as saying some unkind things after leaving the club.

I believe I'm right in saying...

The only team to reach an FA Cup Final despite losing a previous tie!

Actually I'll re-phrase that (Too late to edit, it seems), just in case a pedant pulls me up on it...

...The only team to reach an FA Cup Final despite losing a game in an earlier round!

Good sports quiz question, though!

Agree. Not even sure it was his fault entirely. Where was the man on the back post (Barton maybe?)

I had the good fortune to meet him, top top man. He made time to chat and sign a photo for me, even though he was clearly on his way somewhere.
