RamNut
I read his autobiography this weekend. Interesting read with a surprising number of references to Derby. i didn't realise just how much his relationship with Liverpool soured after he retired. we wasn't invited to games and was banned from Melwood training centre. His last game as manager was to win the FA Cup in 1974. He said afterwards that his rebuilt team was so good they could achieve anything. he bet heavily on them to win the league the next season, "with a saver on Derby". He said " brian clough built a world class team.....if it hadn't been for Cloughie there would be no Derby County as we know it today. Cloughie made Derby." RamNut
Certainly did. he came from a mining village with a population of 700. He had four brothers and all of them became professional footballers. Amazing story.
Pearl Ram
Bertie Mee the Arsenal manager at the time once asked Shanks “Have you heard of the north bank Highbury” ? Shanks said “No, I don’t think so but I’ve heard of the Popside Derby.” True story that. ?
