The step up to first team is the sole  pick of the Manager .So be glad we have now got a manager who recognizes the importance of the academy and not just plays lip service to as all the other managers recently seem to have done

exactly. Its the academy's job to create talented 17-21year olds (ish) which we seem to have done. From there its senior coaches/manager to develop them and that seems like where we've fallen down over previous seasons

McClaren has just signed Walker for QPR.

Curious one this.  Looks like something was amiss for Walker at Derby and we were trying to find him a club in the Summer... then released him when we couldn't do a deal.

Good to see he has found himself a new home, but shame there is no opportunity for a sell-on fee.

Perhaps he liked five-a-side.

Interesting to see Lewis get a deal at such a high level. Delighted for him. Didn't expect it from the few games I'd seen. But Mac is obviously a good coach and is loyal to players he sees potential in, such as Simon Dawkins.

And Frank was just the same, rescuing George Evans from a League One fate, even though the Reading fans were surprised. Time will tell if faith will be rewarded in either case.

Loyalty or in-group bias?

Hopefully the first with Evans.
