Why was Waghorn taking them? None were in shooting distance. The box is where I want my strikers to be.

Waghorn, Mount, Lawrence, Jozefzoon, Wilson all consider themselves set piece specialists and probably claim them themselves.

To be quite honest, I don't care who's taking them, I just want them to

a) avoid the first defender

and b) not fly straight into the goalkeeper's hands.

If that happens, it doesn't matter if the ball lands on the head of a striker or a defender, we've got a chance. Equally, it doesn't matter if Waghorn is in the box if the ball never arrives there.

We need to sort it out.

So far this season, the only set piece that hasn't been abysmal have been Lawrence's absurd Ronaldo FKs. The world is topsy turvy!

I know. He's hardly played this season but everyone has written him off. Now they appear to have discarded both Lowe and Malone over equally short amounts of football. It makes me smile.

The thing with Lowe is not a surprise to me  with what I was told but I think there is a element of people going back to the tried and tested and more the fact that Malone picked up a injury.

What were you told?

If we had a backup in Mount’s position there’s no way I’d start him against Ipswich. He’s not been brilliant so far and I feel he’d be able to make an impact off the bench. I wouldn’t start Nugent personally. He may have scored but that doesn’t suggest he’ll do that in the starting 11. He didn’t make much of an impact against Reading. He’s better suited to being a super sub in my opinion- although you could say the same about Waghorn.

Had a goal chalked off today. I know you like Chris, as do I, but given how late Waghorn joined us I think he's been good. I wasn't totally sure about signing him but I sense he might prove me wrong.

That wasn't the point I was making - I didn't turn it to do with Martin, you just did. I said why was our striker taking freekicks and corners? If they'd been kicks within shooting distance fair enough, but why not let our talented midfielders put the ball into the box where our striker is? Bit old-fashioned I'm sure but there you go.

I also thought Waghorn took his goal well, but didn't have much more in the way of chances, perhaps he could try getting on the end of corners & free-kicks? ?

Wasn't having a dig Roy. You said you want your strikers in the box but he was at times. Take your point anyway but not sure he's the type to get on the end of too many free kicks and corners as he's not tall. That said, I'm sure he got a few with his head last year. You're right though, there ought to be enough guys to handle dead ball situations without him being called on. What do you make of him anyway?

He took the corners for Ipswich and they were very good. He’s rusty, but I’d like whoever to take the free kicks etc to take them all(within reason). Having one each isn’t really working

A shorter, tougher, quicker, less talented Chris Martin! ?

4231 with Lawrence  as the “10” or Wilson depending on fitness. I’d give Mount a “rest” anyway and as you say he can make an impact from the bench.

Hope Huddlestone is back for this one, we really need someone to take control of midfield. I think I woild make changes, but the main issues lie in the fundamentals of our defensive set up and shape when out of Possession, rather than the idviduals themselves, though they should take some responsibility for their positioning. Need to play with the intensity and fight of the second half...

Carson

Tomori Keogh Pearce? Forsyth

Huddlestone

Johnson Mount

Wilson Waghorn Lawrence

Bit more strength and height into the team.

No need to rip up the plan and start again it's just tweaking it to find that balance , personally I'd like to see

                            Carson

Bogle.      Keogh.       Pearce.   Malone

                                  Evans

                 Johnson

Wilson.               Mount.            Lawrence

                           Marriott
