v Reading (A) Match Thread

One of the things I noticed last night was how difficult players make it for the guy in possession.

Too often players were standing right next to each other (boring, 'nothing ' pass) or else took up positions behind defenders so as to make passes look sloppy as they were intercepted.

There were a number of occasions on which we Mount played balls forward to static forwards who allowed defenders to nip in front of them.

The commentator then calls that a sloppy pass and players shout at the perceived culprit.

It will come.  If there's one thing Lampard can instil it's good passing and movement.

Thought Lawrence showed promise , a bit more of the player i thought we had bought from Ipswich, seemed a bit more switched on to having a go rather than running out of ideas in the last third. And what a finish? hope fully see him having more of a crack at goal this season. Lowe did well for us and hopefully keep improving, Mount and Wilson hopefully will establish themselves. Carson kept us in the game and must be a top ten keeper in the country? plenty more to come from this squad.

Positives. Played poorly for large parts of game and won?

came back from behind, heads didn't drop if anything got the players motivated.

away points ?

cracking goals

positive play till the end got us the win.

Feel the same way and like Germany if we continue like this, we will be destroyed on the counter attack, only a matter of time

Obvious areas for improvement- centre halfs - they are not beckenbauer and never will be but they are being asked to pass the ball around which is not easy for them but they are needed for the other type of football that is coming our way when we play different teams, it is also the case with Wisdom at right back and lowe showed that his strength is not heading the ball ( personally I think Forsyth would have stopped that header going in at goal

midfield- we were crying out for Huddlestone to control the ball under pressure and pass it properly over ledley

forward - nugent just lacks pace and he can’t improve with that - his starting place won’t last to long

altogether a very nervous start by derby but late on we were definitely fitter than Reading and we made it count in an unexpected way - a late winner in 90 mins plus which was very rare in the recent times

It’s funny because at the start Reading were first to every ball and a lot quicker than us. They paid the price at the end.

Surprised to see so many criticise for the first half. Yeah wasn't great but it was the same last season, to have your opening game before everyone else live on sky is obviously going to put the pressure on and it's gonna take time to get up to speed. Not sure it ever concerned me.
