Interesting article on Nigerian footballers and their age.

This all flared up again a few years back when Cameroonian Joseph Minale played for Lazio claiming to be 17 when there were rumours he was 42.

Allegedly:

Taribo -12 years, this came from something like a general manager at Partizan

Okacha -10 years, Admitted it went on without incriminating himself, mentioned he retired 'early' at 34.

Kanu -9 years. Leaks from Portsmouth he had knee issues relevant to a much older man

Martins -7 years, was quoted as being 21 and 24 when signing for Newcastle, 24 3 years later when leaving, and 24 again when he signed for Brum 2 years later.

Yakubu -2 or 3 years. In 2005 when McLaren signed Yakubu for Boro he said he was 25 (when he should have been 22), 3 years later when he was at Everton Moyes was quoted as saying "He's only 25, albeit a Nigerian 25, and so if that is his age he's still got a good few years ahead of him."

Julius Agahowa -unknown

Wilson Oruwo -unknown

Other nationalities - John Mensah, an African journalist claimed he had a son in his late teens whilst at Sunderland, but he was only '27'

Freddy Adu never grew taller or heavier from being a 13 year old to this day.  Would add fuel to why some players could, not necessarily him, drop off the radar and down the leagues in their '20s'.
