So.. is there any chance Marriott may be in this week do we think ??

Some on twitter seem to think he will be in on Tuesday, or at least before the Coventry game. Think it might just be a bit of attention seeking, though.

Would love to be wrong ?

I don't really understand this myth about him not working hard for the team. At times last year Vydra was a real nuisance and pressed well tackling.. He is a quality quality player just not one that will maybe fit into Frank's system. It's a shame but we are due a change and if it gives frank the opportunity to change things a little more then I'll back him completely. Big fan of Vydra though, on his day definitely a premier league striker

To be honest i'm more of the Ruud Guillitt school of thought .  He hated his forward players furrowing around 40 yards from goal as by the time they got a chance they miss because there bolloxed .  Pressuring a defender 15 yards from his goal in the way Ian Rush used to yes.  Wingers running 50 yards down the pitch to do a full backs/ midfielders job no.

Exactly!

Don’t get me wrong some, like Nugent, can specialise in running their legs off (although there was a reason he had to keep coming off after 60/70 mins and why he was expired by about Jan) but not many who can do that and be goal scorers. Even at top level there’s plenty like Van Nistelrooy who you could say scored goals but not much else

Marriott is a great shout . Plenty of reasons to sell Vydra , disruptive, greedy, needs a whole system to be built around him.

Comedy gold.

I’d love to see Marriott sign and I think he’ll fit our system far better than vydra will. I’m not writing vydra off I just think Marriot is the true #9 we need to complete us.

Could anyone see us signing Marriott before selling a high profile player? Or is it only once we’ve sold?

On the other hand we’ve had three bids rejected for Marriott which makes me think we would be willing to sign and sell vydra following this (as an example).

Isn’t our last seasons top scorer and pretty much player of the year such a pain, I really hope we sell him. Would like Marriott though, even though I’ve never seen him play at all, ever. I’m just jumping on the bandwagon with everyone else choo choo !!!!

The energy of youth and the experience we have at the club now, will be an exciting mix for this season and beyond...

Would you like to qualify the comment about him being disruptive?

As for having a whole system being built around him, is that really true? Don't remember him having the system built around him at Watford.

So what makes Marriott such a great shout compared to last season's golden boot winner? I'm assuming you've seen him play on numerous occasions and in many different formations?

Looking at Franks style of play looks like this guy could really suit it, very different to SMac where we would play off Martin  and bring players into play. I think one of the main tasks of the striker will be to force the opposition into loosing the ball and break from there. I do believe Vydra could fit his style also, if we prematurely get Marriot thinking we may sell Vyds and then don’t we most certainly have the best forwards in the championship.

I agree whole heartedly with this comment. I'd also like to add that some of the comments on this thread about Vydra are ill judged and unkind. For me he was one of the outstanding players last season and without him we would probably ended up lower in the league . So I'd like to say a massive thanks to him for his efforts and wish him all the best if he goes to another club hopefully at premiership level.

I don't think anyone is doubting Vydra's commitment to the club. If he's being told he won't be in Lampards plans then he has every right to be looking for another club. I'll wish him all the best but I think people are just wanting it to be simple transfer rather than messy as this is turning out.

Marriott's success or failure at the higher level will depend on his ability to control and hold the ball up under pressure and find space behind better-organised defences.

He will need to create opportunities for himself rather than having them on a plate through poor defending.

If we are interested then it will be because we see potential in him to effect and improve these skills.

Still difficult to know about this chap and will he do well for us if we sign him

vydra - championship top scorer and under contract

Marriott - league one top scorer and we have pay a hefty fee for him - but the one question keeps nagging in that why haven’t anybody already signed him from the championship or why hasn’t a premiership club used some pocket change to buy him and loan him out?

Not sure why you think a Premier League club would sign him just to loan him back out, he’s 24 in a couple of months. Whilst still young it’s the age where Premier League clubs look to move on players that won’t make the grade, not sign up for potential.

As for Championship clubs, Peterborough are in no rush to accept an offer, they seem happy to play clubs against each other over social media trying to get the best fee they can.

I've seen his commitment questioned a few times.

He appears to have gone from fragile, to lazy to disruptive in a matter of weeks.

I don't think he has been told he is not in Lampards plan.

On this basis I fully expect a bid of £50m to come in from Man City before the end of the week.
