Hosein, I can see why they’d go with the experienced keepers, but Hosein looks a talent, so needs to be getting some game time at least.

He could play as a specialist bat instead of Hughes for starters*

*he says hoping it reverse-jinxes Hughes into a big innings!

There is that ?

will be interesting to see how Brodrick goes in his championship debut, and where they send him in.

Poor looking line up today, what do Hughes & Smit have to do to get dropped?

And why aren't the most talented home-grown youngsters in Hosein, Qadri & Davis picked?

Lot of pressure on Slater, Godleman & Madsen to get the runs in this match looking at that team.

oops

Nah, Hughes out for 4... let's see what Smit gets.

Whilst I don't disagree with your assessment of Hughes at the moment, if it hadn't been for Smit, we would quite likely have lost against Durham in the only other championship match he has played this season (45* and 34). His resolute knocks in both innings against especially Mark Wood held the lower order together and enabled Derbyshire to escape with a draw.

Might I also remind you that Derbyshire have given both Brodrick and Gleadall their championship debuts today, so it strikes me that your demand for local young talent to be given a chance seems to have been heard.

Edit: Smit out for 0 ?

I'm saying nothing! ?

Not even about picking two Academy products for their debuts?

Anyway, so far, 17 wickets have gone down for 227 runs, so it sounds like a minefield.

It certainly does sound like a minefield.

Hopefully Viljoen can biff a quick 30 odd.

Point taken re Brodrick & Gleadall, but I did say "the most talented" youngsters - being Hosein, Qadri & Davis in most people's opinion.

I can't really comment on the standard of Derbyshire's second XI (although looking through the scorecards this season indicate that Hosein contributed little with the bat until a week ago), but Gleadall looked pretty darned useful when they brought him on to bowl today.

Got to the 1 bonus point.

Durham started well second time round, now if there’s one team that can lose a match after bowling a team out for 96 in the first innings, it’s Derbyshire ?

Durham 101-3 - still not knocked off the deficit.
