Gritstone Ram
The first person to break the four minute mile. I used to run that distance at school. Anag Ram
Set the benchmark and inspired so many that followed. A very clever and decent man by all accounts. Well liked.
A Ram for All Seasons
Roger Bannister was one of the last of the gentleman amateurs, when few people had a TV set and before sport became big-money mass entertainment. It's ironic that he died the day before the doping allegations against Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky were published. As a neurologist, he would have known what that stuff does to you.
