Russell wins a penalty against San Jose Earthqukes. Seems to be playing very well.

Commentators say that since Russell left Derby we've only won one of 10 games and that was when the opposition had a player sent off early on.

Suspect Rowett's regretting the decision to let him go without having a replacement through the door.

Correct, and we should be  regretting it

Russell doing well out there is no surprise, be worrying if he wasn’t. This is a league where Bradley Wright Phillips is a super star.

He will have a statue and the ground named after him by time he retires.

Said for ******* years on here through all the criticism that you’d be surprised how hard it will be to replace Russell in this league.

Not an irreplaceable player but just such a low ceiling on his performance, just a solid winger at this level. Not the sort of player who’ll up the level of the teams performance, he’d never drag you through a game like Hughes or win you matches regularly like Ince or Vydra but if the team was playing well, he’d play well too.

Easy to forget that he was our best winger in Mac1 (until Ince showed up), the best attacking team we’ve had in 10/15 years.

Fair points. But remember Mac 1 was quite a few years ago now. Lots of players were very good then, but have now gone off the boil somewhat (I love Martin to bits, but he’s be the obvious example). Time makes fools of us all, and then it sends us to America.

I think we miss Johnny too, but that's due to the lack of quality wide options in our squad.

We are however in danger of over-hyping him... it's amazing with many players how they can become so much better (in the mind of the supporter) the longer they're out of the team! The same thing happens in cricket!
