Sith Happens
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42979212 Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez has accepted a 16-month suspended jail sentence for tax fraud in return for avoiding a trial. The ex-Barcelona player faced going to trial in Spain over unpaid taxes amounting to around 1m euro (£886,000). This really does my head in. Hes not the first obviously but why should he and others get away with it because they can afford to strike a deal? If the average person in the street defrauded the tax man to the tune of a few grand they would be locked up or the punishment would be severe. Make an example of them, lock him up. It puts me in mind of when Bernie Ecclestone struck when he should have faced a prison sentence. As with everything, it is one rule for the haves, another for the have-nots. Rampage
Is this a feature of Spanish Law or because everyone wants to watch Sanchez play football? I am not sure that many footballers do anything about their wages other than try to get more money and just trust whoever is organising their finances for them. R@M
Not an expert but I think I read that it is indeed a feature of Spanish law where you can negotiate a settlement for certain crimes.
