Albert Posted January 8, 2018 Share Posted January 8, 2018 So England end with a 4-0 loss, a margin England themselves have only managed once, that being 40 years ago now, and that being overshadowed by World Series Cricket. Australia have now done it 3 times since 2005. Outside Cook and Anderson, this generation of English cricket is a shambles. Root can get starts but can't convert, and he is an abysmal captain. Bairstow is too scared to bat higher "because of the pressure", but then sends himself in late in the evening. Broad looks over the hill, despite his age. Stokes is out due to being under investigation. Moeen Ali who averages under 30 overseas with the bat and over 50 with the ball is someone still making the side, while the rest is just a thrown together bunch from county cricket. Things have to change, I don't know what, but if this is how 2019 is approached, and with an even older Cook and Anderson, then it would seem increasingly unlikely that the silverlining of winning over here is safe anymore. A 4-0 loss, where each of the 4 were by a huge margin as well! we just look pathetic in Australia. Bayliss is going and its come out that he wont select any player for tour that he hasn't seen play himself even if they are recommended by one of the selectors. So some raw potential COULD be going untapped. Have to find a way to get our younger cricketers exposure to meaningful fixtures that are NOT played on soft, swinging greentops. This was the first ODI played at the new Perth ground, and nobody seemed to know what par was. Although England got off to a flier, they were unable to post the big total that the early overs seemed to herald. The Aussies too started well, but were gradually subdued by tight bowling. The hero of the day for England was 22 year old Tom Curran, who bagged 5-35. This kid is a superstar in the making - brash, arrogant and a bloody good cricketer to boot. Tom Curran has the right kind of attitude for top level sport - the kind that stands out the very first time you see him, the same applied to the likes of Kevin Pietersen & Ben Stokes when they made their debuts... you can spot winners a mile off. Sam has potential as a proper all-rounder, and he's a left-arm bowler. Will be absolute dynamite in the England squad in a couple of years' time.
