Nuwtfly
The Mirror are reporting that we are among a host of clubs keen on bringing in West Ham defender Reece Burke (currently on loan at Bolton). https://t.co/m259QV6soj

whiteroseram
Strikes me as standard lazy journalism, throw our name in with any story for extra clicks. If there is even an element of truth in it, must mean Shackell and/or Pearce are off (can't see him covering RB when we've got Wisdom and Baird)
sage
Selling Shackell and buying a young promising CB is a no brainer. Our youngest CB is 29 and it is where we are weakest at u23 level.

Links to players like Burke and Souttar (Hearts) suggest a promising change in direction when it comes to recruitment. We need some youth in the ranks! EnigmaRam
Totally agree with this. At some point we are going to need younger players who can step In and develop for our first team.

Obviously on loan at Accrington Stanley until the end of the season now, but I hope he gets given the chance at some point. Despite being only young he's played 48 league games, 20 of them in the Championship.

When he was at Rotherham (under Steve Evans, I believe) the lad was being backed to one day play in the Premier League. Not sure what's happened since then, but if that form is in there somewhere, I'd like to see him given the chance to show it!

Miles off champ standard IMO

Maybe playing in a solid defence (never found in an U23 side) would show his qualities.

I think there was a dip in quality and I don't see Hanson, Bennett or Rawson having careers with Derby or a similar size club. However, Vernam, Guy, Elsnik and Thomas are more promising. I would argue that no one can be judged to be good enough or not until given a chance. Imo Vernam deserves his chance soon, he should be back up to Vydra. Luke Thomas is full of promise and I think he would suit the way we play. Callum Guy should have had his chance yonks ago. I like babos too. RamNut
Young players do tend to get over-hyped. whatever happened to the wonderful careers of Lee Holmes, Lewin Nyatanga, izale macleod, pablo mills, steve elliott, callum ball, tom naylor? More recently the following were all rated fairly highly at one time - ivan calero, alban bunjaku, alfie santos, thomas koblenz, kwame thomas, shaquille macdonald, isaac ssewanksmbo, luke hendrie, rhys sharpe, josh lelan, james severn, jack tuite, mats morch, etc etc. they seem to get a certain level and then.......? I wouldn't be surprised to see the next wave of roos, mitchell, hanson, rawson, bennett and Lowe all drift away. The exception was will hughes whose talent was obvious - to most people. He’s seems to have been around ages but can’t remeber him getting on pitch, where as Vernam and even Thomas who is a lot younger have made short Cameos.
