David
Striker Chris Porter has agreed to become Nigel Clough’s first signing as Derby County manager. Derby’s bid of around £400,000 has been accepted by Motherwell and the 25-year-old held talks with the Rams yesterday and underwent a medical. The deal is now subject to the paperwork going through and the player will sign a two-and-a-half year contract. He is expected to watch the Rams play Coventry City at Pride Park Stadium this afternoon. Porter had looked set to join Cardiff City before the Rams swooped. Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United were also thought to be interested in Motherwell’s leading scorer. Clough is keen to boost his striking options, with the Rams short of goals – they have failed to score in their last four league fixtures – and sees the 6ft 1in forward as a player who can deliver. “He’s a good age, 25, and has been playing in the Scottish Premier League for the last 18 months or so,â€Â said Clough, who added that Derby had been watching Porter for some time. "We just think he is a good all-round player who can support Rob Hulse, Nathan Ellington, whatever. I think he will be a good combination with them.[url=http://therams.co.uk/stories/porter-agrees-rams-switch]http://therams.co.uk/stories/porter-agrees-rams-switch I'l be honest, I've never heard of the guy. If you had mentioned Chris Porter to me last week I would of asked is he the postman? And if you had asked me last week do we need another striker I would of said no, what with Hulse, Ellington, Varney, Dickinson and Villa. It's no obvious the last two are not in Cloughs plans and will be gone shortly, so yes we do need another striker, this gives us 4 now. Like I said, don't know the guy, never seen him play. But come on ewe Porrrter!

M.M
Great, another average striker (from what I've heard). I make that three now: Varney, Tito, Porter. Should the club not be looking to bring in a right winger?

David
Os: Rams to tie up porter deal Nigel Clough has made his first foray into the transfer market as Derby boss with the imminent capture of highly-rated Motherwell striker Chris Porter. The 25-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half-year-deal to become the Rams' first capture of the January transfer window and will tie up the formalities of the move on Monday morning. He is a player Clough is full of admiration for with Derby beating off competition from other Championship clubs for his signature.
