PodgeyRam
Getting lost amongst all the fuss over an actress marrying an unemployed soldier, the shortlist for Sports Personality of the Year was released yesterday. The following have been nominated: Elise Christie - short track speed skating Mo Farah - athletics Chris Froome - cycling Lewis Hamilton - formula 1 Anthony Joshua - boxing Harry Kane - football Johanna Konta - tennis Jonnie Peacock - para-athletics Adam Peaty - swimming Jonathan Rea - motorcycling Anya Shrubsole - cricket Bianca Walkden - taekwondo Who do we think should win it? No Andy Murray this year. I'd be delighted if Peaty won. By far the outstanding person in his sport. No one even comes close to him in breaststroke and he's broken his own world record twice this year.
ColonelBlimp
As long as it's not Lewis, seriously difficult to warm to him. Peaty and Froome for me.
Alph
Anthony Joshua should win it. If he doesn't then he's "a disgrace to the superior black race" Would have thought he'd have been a great guy to win it a couple of weeks ago.
McRamFan
Froome, should be but won't. Peaty outside shot.
DarkFruitsRam7
Defoe should be on the shortlist or get a separate award.
McRamFan
Can the mods turn this into a poll? Would be interesting to see how the vote went.
ramsbottom
1st Froome 2nd Hamilton 3rd Joshua Even though he appears to have no personality, it's about time Froome was awarded for his achievements, but maybe the rumours of doping will effect the voting. Hamilton can be irritating at times, but you can't argue with the way he's driven this year. Joshua's time will come, next year, if he takes down Wilder. Wolfie
Should be Peaty but will probably be Hamilton.
MuespachRam
Should be Froome, what he has achieved is incredible winning the tour and veulta in the same year.
PistoldPete2
Joshua for me but Motor racing drivers seem to win it a lot even though it isnt a sport.
Alph
Thing is Tyson Fury was on it 2 years ago and got removed for homophobic comments. The controversy around racist comments from Joshua aren't even getting reported in the news. To give him this award would be a shambles unless he has some response

Surely a competitive endeavour that requires athleticism which pushes the human body to the limit is a sport? What else is it?

Day
If we’re questioning “sports”, I rode a bike yesterday, I’m also no athlete so why Chris Froome is up there I’ll never know. On your way to work today you will see many riding a bike, it’s easy. Let me know how many F1 cars you see on the roads this morning.

Absolutely @BurtonRam7 the compassion shown by JD made me realise footballers are human after all. He should be recognised without a doubt. Ted McMinn Football Genius
Harry Kane is a “sure fire winner!?!?” How can it be anyone else, after helping Spurs to The Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble its no contest! ??? I mean really world champion Anthony Joshua shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath ????

Did anyone tell Nigel Mansell?

I doubt many people ride round Grimsby on bikes like Froomes. Froome rides his bike in a race, not to the shop to buy some fags! You want to see how quick they go when it's signing on day, Froome wouldn't be able to touch them!
