Every single system in football needs specialists

Agreed but the Mac 433 needed more than most. It was fragile in too many places. On song brilliant but didn't adapt well to changes in circumstance. We are short handed in midfield at the moment but our ability to play more than one way is much greater and this is a team that is in development, not the finished article as the old Mac side was ( and don't deny it .. It had reached its summit )

He's not a dm. He's a deep lying playmaker who can intercept and tackle.

Does that mean we are going to play a new formation at the back

                             GK

RB.              CB.             CB.                LB

                        DLPWCIAT

I think George Thorne in the number 10 role could be a revelation. GT with 3 willing runners (Lawrence, Nugent/Vydra, Russell) and we'll be tearing teams apart. He can pass through the lines with ease and always seems to have the time on the ball in congested areas.

I would have agreed with you 3 years ago, but since those injuries he's lost that bit of mobility that would be required. He used to be able to drive through the middle, able to twist and turn, with pace and power but I don't think he'll get that back. Still a quality player though. I hope I'm proved wrong if he gets a good run of games, but the Clement season wasn't exactly reassuring regarding mobility.

He was given some minutes FFS.

The role allowed him to get some running into his legs whilst also allowing us to retain the ball a bit better.

There is no chance he is a future Number 10... he is a sitting type player, not a runner. Infact an unfit Ledley looks to have more pace than GT did. But then we already knew that right?

He never had mobility or pace. Im not sure where you dreamt that from.

Injuries wont have helped.. but its something he never had. Which is why the DM in the 2014 team was tailor made for him with runners infront of him.

Watch the highlight reel above, the way he breezed past opposition midfielders. He's certainly lost mobility from that period.

It's going to be interesting to see how his fitness develops. One thing for sure, we are a better squad with a GT ready to play.

The great thing about him is that  he is a real all round footballer. He can sit deep, he can tackle he can pass and he has a first touch. He can stride through the middle and hit one as well. You could play a fully fit George in any central position in the championship and he'd look more than capable. Just hope he stays injury free and can get back to 100%

No. 10? Not a chance.

That said, he's way more mobile on one leg than Huddlestone. And one of the few Derby players I've seen with a level of composure on the ball near to Hughes. Also made everyone else look tiny out there. Has he grown?!

Really helped us chill the game out yesterday. It helped that by that point, Forest really seemed to run out of ideas.

Great to see him back on the pitch, but let him work his way back gently before we go expecting great things.

He did well, but I defy anyone to say their heart wasn't in their mouth every time he looked like going in for a challenge.

The problem was, he avoided challenges and that's not positive in the long term.

Either he is fit to plat, or he isn't.

We can't hold out for the player he once was, yes give him time to become match fit, but you could see from a mile away, he wanted to avoid challenges.

He has certainly grown. The canteen must be close to the physio room.

He's a capital D shape at the moment but regular football should see him trim down.

He's our Rolls Royce.

Thank God it's because he's lost all his mobility and not that he's returning after a year long lay off because of a broken leg, otherwise I'd be angry with Rowett for playing him too soon!

He avoided challenges because we were 2-0 up and there was simply no need to go flying in. Why go thundering in for the ball when the aim of him coming on to the pitch is to calm the game down? Nah. He'll be fine. Don't take too much from what was essentially a training match for him.
