The FOBT debate, to ban or not to ban.

The first line just isn't true. There are many lobbying against them, although many behind certain parties.

The contradiction I meant is that you don't see FOBTs are a problem but say if they were removed from bookmakers it would drive the people that use them in to casinos.

I agree that the gamblers need to help themselves but am aware of many that self exclude only to be allowed to carry on gambling. The industry needs to do its part too.

It is true of FairerGambling. With self exclusion, more does need to be done but, if you're willing to "test yourself" by trying to gamble again then the only one who to blame is the gambler.....

Why can't people gamble at their own free will? Only because a minority of us have a problem so everyone else should suffer?

All for adverts after 9pm, no adverts during sporting events, option to block gambling on opening a bank or credit card account.

The one thing I don't buy, is there's a excuse why we are addicted according to some, trying to cover their own failings and looking to blame.

Fair comments and I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite given my views on the Las Vegas thread.

@Mafiabob the Stephen Nolan show on 5 live last night was talking about this subject. They were taking callers from people employed in street bookmakers and people who liked to gamble. Some interesting stories from both sides.

It was a good listen.

Cheers, I'll catch up on it

So the proposal is to lower maximum stakes to somewhere between £2 and £50. That is quite some range.

GambleAware are also looking to raise more funds by having statutory levies instead of the current voluntary donation system.

2 pronged approach seems to indicate the matter is being taken quite serious.
