He's still gaining advantage from his years doping. The drugs allowed him to train longer and harder than would otherwise be the case and there must be residual benefit.

The fact that he's allowed to compete at all is a damning indictment on the IAAF.

Every time he looks at his gold medal, I hope those boos torture him. c***.

It's was the Woman's 10k on Saturday that reeked of suspicion. Ethiopian lady won by 3/4 of a lap and was lapping runners for fun. She didn't even look out of breath. She hasn't run competitively for 11 months due to "injury". Meanwhile Ethiopian drug testing has been called into question as being lax and epo is readily available.

I was surprised no one in the bbc studio brought it up, especially since Paula was there . Gatlin winning the 100m 30 mins later forced them to open the debate.

Really good show on 5 live this morning regarding GDR doping in the 70's and 80's.

Some time ago Tero Pitkämäki who competes at jawelin throw told a story about his practice in Spain.

He was doing his practice throws on a little practice field where other athletes were doing their own training when he saw that the group of doping testers entered the field from the gates. I don't remember if it was Kenyan or Ethiopian long distance running team but when the runners saw the test group enter they ran to the other side of the training track and climbed over the wooden fence and dissapeared. Those guys never came back to that training place on that trip. Other athletes just stared at them running away and laughed.

Ironic, but after his previous cheating, I suspect that Gatlin will be being tested more heavily than the rest of the runners making him possibly one of the cleanest contestants at the whole event - and while everyone is booing him, how many other medal winners have simply got away with it and have been cheered? Athletics will never be clean while the corporate interests outstrip the requirement for a clean sport - and while proven cheats like Gatlin are allowed to prosper....

Darren Campbell came up with what appears to be a simple answer - before anyone is allowed to compete in the professional events, they need to sign a contract stating that they are clean and that they will accept a lifetime ban if they are ever found to have cheated - clean athletes will be happy to sign and the cheats will lose their legal argument that they are having their earnings potential compromised by being banned....until such a time, every medal is tainted with the suspicion that it's been won unfairly.

Womens 200M final and another 4th place for a British athlete. How many does that make at these championships. Will just missing out on medals be seen by some as a failure and question if the money given to British Athletics is being used correctly.
