I had a lovely XR3i - red it was, worst car I had was a silver XR2 - horrendous thing used to dread going out in it - I swear smoke came up through the heaters once but my dad thought I was dreaming. Soon got rid. Had two minis, one bright blue one, my first car that was ok - and one orange one with bucket seats so only my little sister could get in the back - and the smallest steering wheel ever, I was once parked outside my mates house and someone came to the door and said if you ever sell that mini, I will have it off you........someone kindly wrote it off for me not long after that....bstrd. ramit
It's hard to say. Had two Skoda 120L and both served me well for what they were worth, A Polish Fiat 1600cc that broke down repeatedly, a box Lada and two Lada Samara's. All eastern European, cheap, semi dependable, rugged and prone to rust. All but one was red. Every good socialist had to own at least one

LesterRam
Ford Focus diesel, my current car is a bag of s**t and runs on three cylinders, ex cop car so the chassis is bent with pulling fools out of ditches and nearly all the panels are of a similar colour, what a f*****g long way down I have come

Remember how loads of boy racers got body kits for their fiesta's and escort's to make them look like XR2/3, what was the point of that?

Van der MoodHoover
Vauxhall Astra SRi - paid £2,000 for it (privately) in 1990. It drank oil. Ran out on the M3 on trip back down to Southampton and blew the drive shaft through the engine block. £1,500 bill and I didn't have the cash so had to fork out on credit card. Got the car back and within a week shunted into someone in Southampton when they pulled out without warning. The bodyshop then discovered the chassis was twisted - longstanding. so id bought a lemon and the fix up cost was not economic. Got written off for £500. The clue is in bold . The car I always wanted as a youngster - and never got - was the Daihatsu Charade GTti. It was absolutely mental that they could produce a 1 litre car back in the late 80's that did 0-60 in 7 seconds . Faster than most hot hatches with engines twice the size. I get that, its just they were so obviously body kits and probably had a 993 engine in them and as fast as my grandma was in her 90's

I had a mate who had a 950cc Fiesta Popular with a massive stupid spoiler stuck to the boot. I still happens now but instead of the daft & badly fitting bodykits & "go-faster" stripes, it's daft massive exhausts on a 1 litre Corsa with blacked out windows and lowered suspension. LesterRam
It used to be funny when the 1.1cc Ford Fiesta hit a wall and they expected the Insurance company to pay out, "No Sir your 1.6 engine with 18" alloys with illegal spacers, modified exhaust, K&N Airflow and bog standard brakes are not covered under your current policy" have a nice day

jono
never really had a complete dog but the least enjoyable was a company ford Capri 1.6 with a weird Eco carburettor that pinked when the weather was warm and was gutless, heavy and boring even though it was quite pretty. Had a Lancia Delta GT that broke a throttle cable half way across the forth bridge at 4.00 o'clock on a Friday. Drove back to Manchester with a screwdriver stuffed in the linkage which gave me about 35 MPH. Same car also had an electric window which failed (down) when I was in Scotland in January. That was a chilly journey home down the A74 ! Best .... 3.0 24v V6 Alfa 164 it had 72,000 on it when I bought it. We did another 70,000 miles together. Made me smile every time I turned the key. Oil and filters, pads an exhaust, tyres and an air con rad. That was about it. Still singing when I sold it. Ran it to the red line in top gear on an autobahn as it passed 100k miles just for the fun of it. Brilliant engine .. Loved that car, blip, the throttle close your eyes and you were as close to being in a Ferrari as normal mortals can be

Funny how they told you it wasnt modified at quotation time but when it came to claim they were under some illusion the body kit added value so put it on the claim form. I remember once setting a policy up for someone with a not modified cavalier...i saw them pull up outside in it lowered suspension, alloys, spoilers, the works, get out and come in, is it modified i ask, no...erm is that it outside...err yes...ok lets start again shall we. I had an Alfa Romeo 159 2.0 JTDM, I had one £800 repair and a small failure at every MOT from memory (nothing a few ten pound notes couldn't address though). Peugeots however...the dash was like blackpool illuminations every time the key went in the ignition...electrics a bloomin' nightmare.

Electrics, door seals accessories. ( not mentioning tin worm ) Engines and hardware used to be pretty sound. 159 ( I've got one now ) has a lot of GM Vectra platform share. .. Mines nice and a great motorway car but it isn't an old style Alfa. It's overweight and essentially a sound but a bit ordinary Euro car with nice styling.( nice 5 pot 2.4 turbo diesel ) Bosch electronics, Getrag auto box as used by BMW. Love cars but can't get excited anymore unless I win the lotto. Everything is brand or style. Technical identity is a rare bird in the mass market but I am a bit geeky about things like this
