My university course finishes at the end of August and I am currently in the process of looking for a job.

Aside from looking on the usual job websites, I was thinking about sending my CV off to companies that aren't actively hiring at the moment.

Has anyone on here done that before? Did it actually work? Anyone got any tips?

If you want any contact info for HITC, feel free to give me a PM. There's pros and cons to it, like any job.

I worked in Sport Journalism for about a year and that was enough for me.

Makes you wonder what the future of news journalism is. Reporting the news is not profitable. Reporting opinion on the news and winding up the general public's righteous indignation is the name of the game if you want to succeed. I don't envy you, but maybe the other posters suggestions on looking to aim for a specialist journalism niche is a good plan?

Snappy, alluring titles for clicks.

Also, WhatCulture cover news of all kinds, and are always looking for new writers. Not sure how they pay, but might be a useful starting point @PodgeyRam

Cheers mate, I'll have a think about it.

Yeah, from what I gather, it's an area where you make a career out of it or you quickly move out into other areas.

I know of WhatCulture mainly from their wrestling stuff, but they seem to be on the up at the moment (when it comes to that side of the business at least!)

It all comes down to so many factors, but how your personality clicks with the job with be a big part of it. A good friend of mine, after working for GamesRadar (unpaid) for a long time, has now worked his way up to becoming the Editor for Official PlayStation Magazine, and absolutely loves it. Others I've known have gotten sick of it quick.
