An embarrassing mismatch. In the street McGregor might have a chance but under the rules of boxing, why would he have more chance against the elusive Mayweather than the skilled boxers who have gone before him?

It will be a bullfight and we all know who wins them.

I shouldn't be on here, as I know next to nothing about boxing, and would never watch it, and have never heard of the one who isn't a boxer! But isn't one of them active, and the other been retired for years?? Is this a bit like getting the Man utd team from 15 years ago, and getting them to play current Chelsea side, and then selling it PPV?

It very much depends on how the fight is ref'd , as its in America they may try and stop any close in fighting and holding which would normally favour Macgregor

But at some point mayweathers age will catch up with him and macgregor may found the right time to fight him

Both are in a win-win situation. Both come out of this absoloutely loaded.

The result is inevitable. Mayweather isn't a hard puncher, he will just counter his way through the fight to a unanimous decision. McGregor will be highly praised for going the distance.

Mayweather will be criticised for not KO'ing him, but with a record of 50-0 he will go down as one of the greatest boxers of all time and surpass Rocky Marciano's record.

The end.

The only reason why so many people will watch this fight is the hope of seeing Mayweather get KO'd, or the sense of intrigue to see how McGregor attempts to beat him.

It's a circus act. A freak show. Almost an exhibition match where both become loaded afterwards.

Floyd Mayweather has been retired for just over a year and a half but I doubt he's lost much. He wasn't really on a major downswing when he retired and he's only 40 now. Conor McGregor is young, fit and fighting but he's an MMA/UFC fighter. He's a good puncher, likes to keep fights on his feet, but he's a good boxer in a sport where he's against amateur wrestlers, judoka, Jiu-Jitsu fighters, etc... The clue is in the term "Mixed Martial Arts". He fights all sorts of guys but his specialist area is boxing. He outboxes guys who are either good boxers themselves but not as good as him, or guys who aren't boxers and can't execute their particular specialist martial art on him because he's too quick and clever. You have to give some thought to the idea that if this guy is such a good boxer, why isn't he just doing boxing? You might say "well now he is", and that's exactly why this fight exists.

McGregor's strength lies in the fact that he's got good knockout power at his weight class, but is also decently all-rounded in MMA. But that won't do him any good in a boxing match against someone who is one of the very best ever, if not the best ever, in the sport of boxing. Mayweather will run through him so easy and he has only taken this fight for the money, because he loves himself some dosh, but mainly to get his 50th career win. Mayweather has fought some of the best in his weight division and is 49-0 undefeated.

A McGregor win is such a long shot, he can't possibly come out of this looking bad. If he wins, he wins. If he loses, he was expected to. Hiding to nothing.

Hope that clears some of it up for you. It's a big deal because you say it's like 2002 United vs 2017 Chelsea but it's more like Arsenal's Hector Bellerin, who is extremely fast, becoming an Olympic sprinter. He's fast....for a footballer, where speed is just one attribute in the game as a whole. Would he win gold in the 100m against guys who's only focus is speed and pace? Probably not.

McGregor will be all over him from the first bell, dancing round him more than John Travolta, catch him early, wobbles, round 2 send him to the ground, ref calls a stop.

Mayweather demands a 2nd fight, McGregor falls out with the UFC, buys out his contract and leaves MMA. Rematch will take place in the new year, this one will go the distance with Maywether winning on points.

McGregor banks his cheese and buys a ticket for Hollywood, the McGregor story his debut film, followed by a couple of crap overpaid cameo roles and he's done, ridiculously rich with his brain cells still in tact.

Can't see Mayweather giving up the unbeaten record for more money, it's not like he is short of it at this point. I know he is one of those 'you can never have enough' characters but he will be thinking about his legacy at this point. 50-0 is a serious achievement.

Not saying Mayweather will forfeit the first match to line up the cash cow, the cash cow will come as Mayweather will refuse to bow out losing to a cock Irish MMA star

Can't get excited. Don't feel the hype. I would watch it if it was Mayweather vs anyone because I'm a boxing fan but I would not tune in especially.

If McGregor was that good at boxing he'd be a boxer. He's not fighting the world number 10. He's fighting a legend of multiple weight divisions.

I hate it because I can't stand Mayweather and he's about to get even more fame and fortune. There's guys in his weight division that would offer a genuine challenge. Youthful undefeated guys.
