It is reported that Leeds United want to loan a Rams player for their promotional push out of League one.

Leeds United, have made an approach to loan Derby County Striker Steve Davies. The report seems to suggest that Leeds may wellcash in on their prolific striker Jermaine Beckford, who is currently interesting clubs in the Premier League.

No news as yet has come out of Pride Park and it will be interesting to see if Derby do let a striker move from the club on loan...

Don't really see the point in a loan, we know what he can do and he will get games once he's fit, but there's the problem....he's never fit.

Can't say I'd be to sad to see him go as long as he went for a profit rather than a loss.

NIGEL Clough says Steve Davies remains a key part of his future plans – providing the forward can stay injury-free.

Davies, who has been plagued by injuries since joining the Rams 18 months ago, has been linked with a move to League One leaders Leeds United.

The speculation was news to Clough, who is hoping to keep the 22-year-old fit following his recent return from a hamstring problem.

Leeds tried to sign Davies, who has been restricted to only three starts this season – the last on August 22 – when he was with his previous club, Tranmere Rovers.

And the Yorkshire outfit are believed to be searching for a replacement for star striker Jermaine Beckford, who is expected to leave Elland Road during the January transfer window.

But Clough said: "I'd be absolutely amazed if someone came in for him.

"He's barely played this season, so they are going on reputation if anyone is interested in him.

"But he's one that we will try to keep if he can stay fit, because he's got as much ability as anybody at the club when he is injury-free."

Clough has now challenged Davies to stay fit for the remainder of the season.

"He needs to be available for two, three, four months now, otherwise he will keep breaking down," said the Rams boss.

"So he has to get through as much of the second half of the season as he can.

"He's got to get a run of games or run of training and being fit. That's how you build your strength up and your resistance to injury as well.

"I think when you've had so many injuries, as soon as you feel anything, you think it is worse than it is.

"Then you get into a very cautious state of mind about your body, which is another thing he has got to overcome.

"He's got to get through these things and just put himself out there."

Davies came on as a second-half substitute in last weekend's FA Cup third round draw at Millwall and is giving his manager a selection headache ahead of today's Championship clash with Ssausagehorpe United at Pride Park.

"He is pushing for a start but the only nagging doubt with Steven is that he hasn't played many games," said Clough.

"He came on at Watford and barely finished the game and then had 20 minutes at Millwall. That's all he's had in about 18 weeks.

"If he can start, he wouldn't finish the game, so he might be better coming on. We're not sure yet but he's definitely in there with a shout."
