I find it quite ironic that with our draw against Huddersfield has meant Brighton have been promoted. When in 2013 / 2014 we beat them 6 - 2 over two games in the playoffs. Why is we have gone backwards and they are on the verge of the title.  We outplayed them in the second leg but have gone nowhere since. Brighton have progressed steadily from playoff hopefuls to potential title winners. We are now a maybe for the playoffs and a big maybe at that.

They've not progressed steadily.

The season after the play offs they finished 4th or 5th from bottom.

You're spot on but unfortunately Morris would fire Rowett before he would have the chance to stamp his authority on the team. 1 step forwards, 2 steps back. Morris really needs to step back and let Rowett get on with it, even if the players start complaining to him again

Morris has given Rowett full go ahead to clear out the squad in the summer, any changes he wants will happen. Think this season is the final straw for Morris and these players. Expect a far more sensible approach from now on.

It's just the same old we struggle to beat teams who put basically their whole team behind the ball. It was the same thing again.. the players have the ball but can't pass it forward this results in Huddersfield getting back into position to defend easily again.

To be fair to Ince I watched him a lot that game.. What can he do when has 4-5 players around him/in front of him? He did well to spread the play as that's all he could do!

Thankfully Rowett picked up on this after the game saying we was too slow at times. This what gives me confidence he sees the game as it is just hope he knows how to turn these games around. Even their Manager came out and said they changed tactics against us (A lot of teams do unfortunately).

Both Hughes & Ince were getting frustrated yesterday - they would pick the ball up, run into space and find all of our players in front of them either standing on their heels or hiding behind opposition players - Butterfield found the same when he came on - when there are no options to pass the ball forward, the sideways/backwards pass is the only option - and while Huddersfield deserve credit for making it difficult for us, it wasn't until JR came on that we had someone willing to run into the gaps between their defence and midfield and give the midfield some options.

I'm afraid Bent is just a disaster in the formation we were trying to play - his mobility is dreadful and his presence on the pitch simply encourages our wide players to try to hoof the ball to him in the middle of the box - it's a huge shame Nugent was injured yesterday as his mobility allows us the freedom to play....

They brought in a coach two seasons ago that knows what he is doing, knew what type of players he needed and the board/owner backed him.

Find it hard to read into much yesterday, with Rowett already submitting his transfer targets for the summer, I wouldn't be surprised if some players know their time is up at Derby. Bent for one. I've been a long time admirer of him but to see Rowett having to explain the offside rule to him on the touchline was worrying.

Their goal? poor defending but still offside, after that they sat back, were well organised and didn't allow Derby to get through. Players looked frustrated, wasn't until Butterfield's goal you were reminded we had fans in the ground. The atmosphere was very flat from kick off, to be honest if I was there I would have stood hands in pockets as well.

Took me until 4.50pm to part with £7 to watch on Now TV, how half fan is that? Brentford result was still raw, even with little to play for to collapse like that was a joke. I don't mind losing, in fact I've got used to it but rolling over and having your belly tickled was a piss take.

So what we had nothing to play for in the league, do they not have pride? do they not realise the couple of thousand Derby fans that made the trip down their to support them?

For all those worrying if Mel will give him the time to sort this squad out, you seriously think he will sack him between now and August? behave, he's got the summer and the freedom to do what he likes. We just need to hope the interest is there for the players to allow Rowett to replace.

Oh that Parra bloke, needs to man up.

I thought that here was one bright 10 minute period yesterday, when Hughes took it upon himself to 'captain' the side on the pitch and run the whole show, telling others exactly where to run.

The other 80 minutes was like watching paint dry - gloss paint that takes about 2 days before you can apply the next coat.

Olsson gets little support tbf, either way Fozzy comes straight back in. Their goal was Johnson's fault for stepping up, allowed them to come straight through the middle of us. Hudds only did that all game, didn't go forward once unless they saw a big gap. Thought they were piss poor, let off the hook by us being crap going forward like we have been all season. Our playoff final side would have smashed them 3 or 4.

Yes, would have been interesting to see whether Nugent can cope with the team sitting in as so far he's been running into space as we counter attack. I think he would at least have got into the defenders' faces and let them know he was there!

And?

They've not progressed steadily since that play off result against us which is what the poster stated.

That would be ridiculous lol.

Just a bit of pruning needed that's all.

You would think so, but this basic group of players have been together for a while now - we've had numerous managers try to get the best from them, but they have a soft under-belly and crumble (repeatedly) when things don't go for them.

We all said before this season started that they needed some steel and that 'Sergeant-Major' Pearson would bring that - he couldn't get them to perform; we've had Mac back and sure, there was a lift when he first came back, but even then we were fragile - now they've shown again under Rowett that they don't seem to have the stomach for a fight....it suggests there is an underlying issue in the group as a whole - lots of talk of great team spirit when they're off the field, but made of glass when the pressure of playing competitively comes to the fore.

You'd hope that the addition of a couple of warriors and a proper leader could turn it around, but it seems that there is something more fundamental wrong with the squad - a 'bit of pruning' may not be enough.....

I agree with most of that, apart from their goal. We were wide open yes but what I found strange was that Jonno had gone off injured right next to where the throw in was. I couldn't understand Ince throwing the ball to their played in such an advance area. They quickly shifted the ball through our centre and the rest is history. For me surely the sensible thing to do would of been to give it back to the keeper or knock it towards the corner flag. At least that would of allowed time for Jonno to get back in position properly and get our shape.

No but they have since they brought in CH, so they have done so in the last 3 seasons -  unlike us changing managers like some change their knickers and spending fortunes on players who really do not hold much value.

AS god as we were then... its morfe bout how poor they were.

they have been top 6 3 of the last 4 seasons, and now top 3 two seasons running.

We have stood still possibly gone backwards..... but more over they have improved and found levels of consistancy we havent.

Sorry lads, my tortured syntax was meant to be having a tongue-in -cheek pop at threads about players, not the players themselves.

Fell a bit flat I guess
