Whilst I agree with your general point, I can't remember seeing many positive signs in Pearson's tenure.

I agree. And I didn't have any Pearson goggles post pre-season. But all this over the top stuff is a bit much when you'd hope the fans might learn from our very recent history.

Can't wait for the "Mel has got it wrong and I never wanted Rowett thread" in about 6 months time when we go down to a last minute winner for the red dogs at our gaffe. Morning......

Well that one you can never accuse me of because I've wanted him at Derby for years.

Mel and Gary will be a winning formula.

You would love them  to fail would you.

Oh I certainly hope so, I just think it's premature to be making strong statements about his tenure after 2 games.

I guess it is sort of - but you can see it coming no? Unlike our other managers he deals in specifics. I just listened back to his sky interview and found myself saying; jeez Gary stop giving all our detailed tactics away ... he really put time into analysing the opposition strengths and weaknesses. Why did he think Johnson was so good? What did he do to exploit qPRs formation?

Heard more game tactics and clever ideas from this guy in 2 games then from Pearson Mac and Clement combined. Very Klopp-ish ... then you factor his overachievements of the past. No wonder Mel moved fast

Lets have a bit of optimism then from the usual crew

Who is that then?

Still early days to get carried away. It is a positive start but the same was said under Mac, Clement, Pearson, Powell, Mac part 2. Let's just take it game by game at the moment and see what he can do up to the end of the season, see what he does in the transfer window and how we set up in preseason and see how we start next season. If we keep it up then great, if not, then what? Will you still say he "saved us" from Mac?

I really hope so and that was a great start last night, loved it.

3 months ago I had similar thoughts on Mac.

Having said that, last night was different and I am genuinely excited about the football and the direction we seem to be heading in.

It just seemed so much better last night.

I'm looking forward to how he deals with the returning Martin conundrum. If Nugent and Vydra continue their fine form how can one of them be dropped ?

Would Martin have the hump being on the bench ? Would one of the other two if they lost their place to accommodate him ?

All hypothetical of course but we've all heard/read the rumours of unhappy players going to Mel.

After being lukewarm to Rowett's appointment, I'm warming to him with every interview. I am wondering about "the new manager bounce effect" but only because some of our players have history of appearing to tire of our previous coaches/managers relatively quickly and not giving their best (in my opinion) but I like to think with no interference from the boardroom these players will find they've met their match in Rowett and will be enlightened rapidly.

I am quite optimistic about the future this morning and it's a nice feeling to have.

COYR ?

Surely we can scrape together some better cliches than these, lads. Prize has got to go to IamSheep's "let's judge it after 10 games of next season". Beautiful, cliche'ed reasoning there...the way he formed it in his conscious stream, ran it through his cortex and then tapped those keys out to form the sentence was pure Brazillian Blend...

You're on another planet of bias bro.

"Failure' for some, overachievements for others. What ever happened to a bit of balance.

Loving GR's arrival, much more enthused by it than I thought I would be, everything just seems fresh after a year or two of going stale. Interested to see what he does in the summer and then how he starts next year. Let's not get carried away just yet..

You should come to the next game with a loudspeaker and tell the whole crowd that we were getting far too excited and carried away by that clinically brilliant QPR performance, and were premature in loving on Rowett. I'm sure we'd all clap and agree with you

So far so good with rowett without a doubt. I wasn't totally convinced at first that he was the right man, but the way he talks about the game and understands it makes me at least trust him a lot more than previous managers. He seems to have clear ideas about how to win football matches, in terms of how to set up and organise a team to counter what the opposition does. He doesn't just choose the best team, but rather the best team for the game at hand.

Hes also, crucially, more of a 'proper manager' than a coach like Mac and Clement previously. These players don't need teaching how to play the game, they need organising into a proper system, and to be taught how to beat the opponent they are facing, and that's what rowett brings imo. All this being said it's early days still, it's impossible to judge whether he'll be successful after 2 games, who knows what could happen. But the signs are there, and hopefully we keep this up

Getting carried away at the match, in the moment, is different to putting it up on the forum the following day that Gary Rowett is the saviour. As I said, it is a positive start, and let's take it game by game, and actually enjoy what is being put out in front of us, at the game and get carried away at the game, but when we come back to reality, and start making claims that we are going to do this or that after around 2 hours worth of good football, it is just setting everyone up for a fail.
