songs that bring back memories of Rams matches of the past

Recommended Posts

Just a lighthearted topic to bring to  these despondent days .

Every now and then a tune comes on that takes me right back to some particular match

A few examples

Going way back to 1973 v Man City at the Baseball  A night match my uncle took me and it was just the time fans were segregated we stood in the Ossie end next to the front and during the warm up Mike Sumerbee was having a bit of banter with some City fans through the fence and my uncle shouts him over and as he`s talking to my uncle Al Martino "Spanish Eyes" comes on the loudspeaker system and both him and Sumerbee say wow Al Martino and start singing and laughing .

Jumping forward to 1982 Rotherham away at Millmoor another night match Gerry Gow broke Steve Emery`s leg Ronnie Moor scored the winner Yakka Banavic was our keeper The Jam "A Town called Malice" beating out over the smoke filled terraces behind the goal Rams fans bopping to the music

Not a song, but a chant in the Clough/Taylor years at the Baseball ground. The home fans would chant 'Ooh, it's a corner' repeatedly in the time between the awarding of the kick and it being taken and this was accompanied by the fans standing in the middle tiers of the Ossie and Normanton ends stamping in unison on the wooden terracing. It was bit like Iceland's chant and the noise was incredible and so intimidating for the defending team. Hinton would take the corner and MacFarland or Mackay would head it in. Simple.
