In my opinion the philosophy on the game is totally different. Exclude tonight's 0-0 anomaly (rare under McClaren) however it's impossible to ignore we have been scoring more goals. I don't think McClaren has had too many chances to improve his squad to a satisfactory standard that he believes would improve us.

Another clear difference is Tom Ince. Tom Ince has been markedly better under McClaren, Ince has proven under the Mac to be one of the best wingers in the league.

Tonight was a poor game, that is true, but don't compare it to the Pearson era. Under Nigel Pearson we went from loss to loss, in his spell at Derby he had a 21.4% win ratio, whereas presently Steve McClaren has a 50% win ratio. That stat alone proves the clear differences, which I'm sure you know are there.

Yes it would appear to be the case. Also need to consider the long term damaging effects of the Newcastle debacle on Mclaren. Not to be under estimated, despite his chirpy demeanour.

Anyhow he's back at Derby for the foreseeable, it won't be boring for sure (we don't play Brewers every week)

The foot all is better now than under Pearson. We could never even control matches under Pearson. It was truly awful football, and I've seen Paul Jewell teams, John Gregory. Today we at least controlled the match but they've put everyone behind the ball, can be very hard to break such teams down. We probably need a bit more physicality from a set piece against such teams.

I think even Pearson could have achieved the dizzy heights of a home 0-0 draw with Burton Albion

To be fair if they put 11 behind the ball and were happy to concede posetion then it's easy to look like we control the game?

we are miles off being a promotion challenging team, forget the Pearson start ,we were lying top six on the back of new broom bounce and have collapsed like a cheap mfi wardrobe yet again and tonight we had not had tiring fixture build up but rather 10 days rest and prep ,,, yes as a long standing Derby fan I don't think we are in a mess but by god we are a long way off what we are aiming for , I'm not calling for Mac to be sacked but by the same token I would not be heartbroken if I heard Mel was looking for the right manager ( don't ask me who ) and was looking to have a big clear out of players

Sitting only yards from MaClaren it wasn't for his want of trying.

Very intersting looking and listening to him. Some of the players were either unable, unwilling, or not understanding what he was asking them to do. If they had done we would have been much more forward thinking, quicker in our passing and movement and would have been able to get in behind them much more.

As it was too many were in pedestrian mode.

But we were winning matches until recently and when McClaren took over we were hovering around the relegation zone. The team isn't good enough but I think we miss Martin and Thorne and too many players are average, inconsistent, don't fit nicely into the side or been out often for whatever reason- Butterfield, Camara, Christie, Johnson, Olsson, Russell, Bryson, Blackman, Vydra?

The difference between us and a top 2 side is they have players consistently in form. I don't necessarily think it's McClaren's fault. We have bought poorly and had bad luck with injuries. Was McClaren a good manager 6 weeks ago? Has he become bad now? I wouldn't like to see someone else appointed. I think we are close to being a top 6 team but so many players give below par performances regularly.

Come on it's not just Burton that play this way at pride park is it

we must of had some idea they would play this way for sure

and we still can't break em down good god is this the Derby way ?.

Bent and Nugent missed open goals and we had a penalty turned down for no other reason than the ref looked like he'd be out of his depth in a Under 8's match on the racecourse.

As poor as we were it should have been a comfortable 2-0 home win

Is Mac a bad manager now or six weeks ago ? Probably not ,, is he the manager to take us up and get us competing in the prem ? I have my doubts one thing is for sure though and that is that he will have to rebuild a team and squad if he is to do it so only time will tell

Watching from the top of the South Stand, it looks like the real problem is too much emphasis on getting it out wide too quickly with too many players out there. We often had 4 wingers tonight getting in each others way. We don't need pace, we need intelligence to play quick triangles in midfield to open up space.
