derbydan
Derby County's reserves were 2-1 winners in the totesport.com Central Division against West Bromwich Albion this afternoon. There were huge positives for Manager Nigel Clough as he saw Jake Buxton, Steven Davies, Ben Pringle, Chris Porter and Saul Deeney step up their returns from injury. Davies played the first half while Porter got just over an hour under his belt in the game played at Alfreton Town's Impact Arena to add to the 20 minutes he picked up in last night's draw at Preston North End. Buxton played 81 minutes before being replaced by Clough for a cameo appearance in the middle of the park as Derby saw the game out. First-teamers Lee Croft and Jake Livermore were also in the Derby starting XI as well as midfielder Mark Doninger who plays for Blue Square North side Blyth Spartans. Albion named a young side with only three senior professionals in their line-up and Derby started strongly. Davies tried his luck with a speculative long range effort in the 10th minute, but with the goalkeeper motionless the ball flashed wide of the post and Derby's domination continued as Livermore went close. The Rams' early pressure was eventually rewarded on 21 minutes. Albion failed to clear their lines after Porter forced Allsopp into a save low to his right, but Croft reacted first and delivered a cross to the far post which was converted by Doninger with a diving header. Derby extended their lead before the break when Livermore tapped home after his initial effort came back off the post after good work by Porter. Albion pulled a goal back before the break when Mantom let rip with a 20 yard shot which fizzed past Deeney before he could move. Arnaud Mendy had an effort cleared off the line in the second half, while Deeney produced a fine finger-tip save to turn Elford-Alliyu's shot onto the post. There was a surprise introduction late on for Derby as Manager Nigel Clough entered the fray in place of Buxton, using his experience amongst the young midfield to see out the game. Derby County Team: Deeney, Forde, Davies (Whight 46), Doninger, Mendy, Buxton (Clough 81), Croft, Prijovic, Porter (Lawless 66), Livermore, Pringle. -- maybe a omen lol if we get anymore injuries he'll put himself on the bench clough sav and dickov all playing :eek: we'll be doomed a 'geriatric' championship side lol on the plus side looks like our injured players are starting to return to full fitness atlast
Day
The age gap between Savage and Clough is less than Savage and the rest of the Derby squad so it's probably a possibility.
