Don't Shoot Me Santa - The Killers

Christmas was better in the 80's - The Futureheads

It's Clichèd to be Cynical at Christmas - Half Man Half Biscuit

All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit - Half Man Half Biscuit

White Christmas - Iggy Pop

A Snowflake Fell (And it Felt Like a Kiss) - Glasvegas

Stop the Cavalry - Jona Lewie

I Wish it was Christmas Today - Julian Casablancas

Frosty the Snowman - The Ronettes

Fairytale of New York - The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl

Aforementioned Wedding Present and Saint Etienne ones are worth a spin as well.

Fairytale of New York always brings a smile no matter how many times I hear it, just thinking that there never was a NYPD choir, nor indeed a song called Galway Bay* . A good old list, could only add Eek-a-mouse Christmas a Come and Ballboy's Merry Christmas to the Drunks. (What, no Chris Rea ?). Two likes for HMHB every time.

*Or so I believe.

A hideous song that reminds me every Christmas that I'm a lonely singleton, thus making Christmas a thoroughly depressing time of the year. Ban it.

I'm sorry Coconut. That sounds tough.

It is however one of Rammie's favourite songs (all I want for Christmas is ewe)

I love all the old 70s & 80s Christmas songs, reminds me of being a kid, the excitement that Christmas used to bring, I was lucky enough to have massive family christmases with nans and grandads, aunts and uncles and all my cousins, it wasn't about the presents it was the being together ! Didn't realise that at the time, I think that's why I still love Christmas now, special time of the year for family ! Any how enough rambling, for me I think this is my favourite!

'if you ever go across the sea to Ireland . . . . '

Remember the ferry advert ? Well that song is Galway Bay .

Not sure about the NYPD choir bit , but surely there would be one.

I must admit I quite look forward to this time of year to hear this played on the radio:

A spaceman came travelling on his ship from afar,
'Twas light years of time since his mission did start,
And over a village he halted his craft,
And it hung in the sky like a star, just like a star

He followed a light and came down to a shed,
Where a mother and child were lying there on a bed,
A bright light of silver shone round his head,
And he had the face of an angel, and they were afraid

Then the stranger spoke, he said "Do not fear,
I come from a planet a long way from here,
And I bring a message for mankind to hear, "
And suddenly the sweetest music filled the air

And it went La La
peace and goodwill to all men, and love for the child

This lovely music went trembling through the ground,
And many were wakened on hearing that sound,
And travellers on the road, the village they found,
By the light of that ship in the sky, which shone all round

And just before dawn at the paling of the sky,
The stranger returned and said "Now I must fly,
When two thousand years of your time has gone by,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry"

And it went La La This song will begin once again
To a baby's cry
And it goes La La peace and goodwill to all men, and
Love for the child
Oh the whole world is waiting, waiting to hear the song again,
There are thousands standing on the edge of the world,
And a star is moving somewhere, the time is nearly here,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry
