Possibly, infact that was my way of thinkig in the summer. BUT Pearsons tenure and some of the games under Clement have prooved that Some of our players are not happy in this more balanced system. You need to counter quicker and make longer passes in this system and the hughes butterfields brysons have shown they are not happy playing this way. I think the higher pressing in the opponents half with the extra attacking midfielder is the only way to go.
Clarity
A fit Thorne is the best holding midfielder in the division. Obviously we'll have to wait and see what level he's at when he gets his chance in the team, but if (huge if) he stays healthy for a sustained period, he'll play his way back into the team. Johnson has been very good recently, but he still does things like bomb on and give the ball away in dangerous areas, where I find myself asking "would George do that?", with the answer usually being "no". I'm glad to see Johnson doing so well in there, but I feel Thorne is tailor-made for the position, and plays it better than anyone else. Thorne Hughes Johnson could also work. People say the balance wasn't right, but at times we just bullied teams with those two in it. Definitely food for thought for the Mac.

Shuff264
As long as BJ is playing like he is, its his position to lose. Will be interested to see how long he can keep this up and stay consistent, had a real downturn last season. Hopefully no repeat this year. Hope he keeps it up too so we have no repeat of numerous posters regularly coming on here saying how ***** he is, what a waste of money he is, and actually booing him when he was playing or when he came off the pitch. I won't hold my breath though. He is only a bad 90 minutes away from being utterly useless again. Booooooooo! p.s. For this post also read Pearce, Baird, Bent, Ince, etc., etc.

If fit, he would be a must pick and the formation would be tailored around him. Currently, we have three good players but they don't look like a unit. You rarely see them passing to and supporting each other. We don't have the slick style we've had in previous seasons. GT's zippy passing provides that momentum. However, unless his medical team has done miracles I'm afraid I can't see him getting back to full fitness. I really hope I'm wrong because he is class. Not sure I entirely agree. Like you, I am a great GT fan, he is PL class when it comes to passing and tackling. BUT .. The one thing about the 3 at the moment is that the ARE a unit and seem to compliment each other. All three have the capability to do a job in each other's roles. Hughes can tackle better than he did a year ago. Butterfield is industrious and not just a runner. I like the fact that they all have all round capabilities rather than being specialist DM/AM etc ... They aren't duplicating each other but they are interchanging as play unfolds in different situations.
BobbyD
We are not in a position where we need to 'accommodate' George, on the basis that he is so much better than what we currently have. Like the many really good players we have on the bench, he will have to wait his turn. I, for one, am very excited about our strength in depth right now which will be vital, and possibly fundamental, in the second half of the season. George will be a key part of this. We can't break up the current team, especially the midfielders - they are all going from strength to strength. Maybe Bradley can go back to playing further forward in time, now that he has regained his confidence. I suspect, however, that it will take an injury or suspension for that to happen in the short term. On the goal subject, at the time I was sure that Will had lost it and it fell fortuitously to Brad. Having seen the highlights a couple of times it looks much more like that Will fed Brad, knowing he was about to lose it.
