But there was plenty england fans trying to get away from the trouble what there not mention france fans were attacking england fans.

There was one young lad who was walking along and minding his own and he was pulled down and he stamped on and kicked and punch. Until few england fans came to his aid and chased them off and one of the locals helped him up.

To a certain extent, England's 'problems' are historic in nature, but this pathetic racist chanting which occurs at most England matches is not banter - it is, and always has been, designed to antagonise, and if a confrontation ensues, so much the better, as far as they are concerned.

Would not agree with you on this point, and I followed England for a few years.

I certainly would not refer to the chanting as 'racist'. Of course most of the chanting is done to provoke reaction but so are probably 50% of the chants at all grounds but as for trying to provoke confrontation I don't agree.

What is this so called racist chanting?

Is it aimed at another country or religion? I'm all for a bit of banter but I draw the line sometimes when I don't think it's appropriate.

Perhaps it's changed in recent years, but as recently as 3 or 4 years ago Rio Ferdinand was complaining about it. The seriously confrontational and antagonistic nature of the thugs who attach themselves to England are the reason I stopped going.

Ten German bombers, the IRA,Muslims and how we saved the French from becoming 'krauts' are still sung in the bars but the blatant racism is mainly from the east European, eastern block and Russian fans in the ground.

I've been to alot of away games and trust me,we are no angels but definitely not the worst. Alot of these countries model themselves on our 80's behaviour and unfortunately those guys have retired or been banned so they can't get the kicking.

Perhaps I should have said "Implied racism". I stopped going to England games in the 1980s, and have no desire to rub shoulders with single-figure IQ knuckle-dragging national anthem booing simians again. The fact that you seem to mourn their passing is a bit sad.

I'm not sure he is mourning their passing, but following England has changed so much over the year, some of the best ever away trips/days of my life, have been spent following England in the 80's and 90's and as I said earlier also some of the worst trips/days of my life....

the demographic of the average England away fan has changed so much since you stopped going in the 80's, now you are far more likely to see people wth their face painted, wearing those stupid lace less pumps, sporting a ridiculous pop idol hair cut and talking about the latest series of Britains got talent than you would seeing what you would know as a "hooligan". This change has to be put down to the great work the FA have done over the years. Many will slag them off (me included) for some of the rubbish they spout, but they said the England away support had to change, they implemented guide lines to make sure it did and they were largely successful. I would have no concerns at all taking my 15 year old son to watch England away in Lixembourg now.....I have been there a couple of times and witnessed the worse hooliganism I have ever seen back in the day.

England have moved on, it just seems that maybe the Russians haven't!

The Russians have moved on alright. From a booze up and a punch up, they've taken it to paramilitary operations.

Encouraged by a ultra Right Russian M.P telling them to keep it up. Some hope of calming them down then.

Where have I said that?!

I quite clearly suggest it's a shame that English hooligans who have been prevented from going over there could be knocking/getting knocked ten bells out of each other instead of the innocent fans who go for the right reasons.

Put them on an island and leave them to it.

That bit is very ambiguous. It might have been clear to you, but there was nothing to suggest it was about being in place of innocent fans.

It would also put the clock back another 30 years.

It's perfectly clear to me. I could see straightaway what he was getting at.
