Posted June 8, 20169 yr Just reading the latest DET Pearson story string out article and thought it was very interesting how Keogh refers to checking the news for updates on the manager situation. I'd have assumed that the playing staff would have been at least updated on what was happening, but apparently not. As a fan I sometimes lose sight of the fact that some aspects of football really are like any other profession and that the players at the end of the day are just employees. I also suspect this was a call direct to Keogh rather than through DCFC media as it's missing the obligatory "Darren did a great job" soundbite, before launching into an effusive "Do I still have a job" tribute to New Nigel. http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/keogh-pearson-has-everything-to-take-us-to-another-level-3137634.aspx?
June 8, 20169 yr Im guessing that each club would have its own way of handling this with the squad, given the "three year review"and not feeling able to just let Wassall roll on, they wanted to handle to handle it as closed professional as they could for the sake of integrity. Until something was fixed, what could they tell the squad? Beyond we're interviewing? Beyond a wee chuckle about the speculation they had a good idea I'm not to sure they paid it that much attention - id hope once Pearson was decided to they were all told before the press naturally enough.
June 8, 20169 yr Quote Richard Keogh believes that the appointment of Nigel Pearson and Chris Powell represented the ‘right thing’ for Derby County – insisting he cannot wait to work with the club’s new bosses. Prior to the club announcing Pearson as Derby’s new Manager, the defender admitted that he had watched the situation back at the club with great intrigue. Speaking from the Republic of Ireland’s camp ahead of this summer’s European Championship campaign, though, the 29-year-old hailed the track record and pedigree that the pair will bring to the Rams for the 2016/17 season. Whilst clearly impressed by the appointment of Pearson, he also labelled the decision to bring Powell, the former Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic Manger, back to the club as ‘clever’. He also believes that Derby are in for another exciting season as they gear up for a fourth successive promotion charge. He told dcfc.co.uk: “I was checking the news every day to try and find out what was going on and like the fans, when the news came through, it was very exciting. “I was watching the situation at home very closely and my first reflections, when the announcement was made that Nigel was to be our new Manager, was that it was a very positive move by the club. “Nigel’s track record speaks for itself really in terms of what he has done with other teams. “Everyone knows what he achieved at Leicester and from coming up against his sides before you always know that you are in for a tough game. “With Chris Powell too, he is someone has got a really big affiliation with the football club and bringing him in as Assistant Manager is a very clever move by Nigel and the club. “Bringing both Nigel and Chris in is the right thing for us and I think we are going to be in for a very exciting season.” In his last job in management, Pearson not only got Leicester City promoted to the Premier League, but kept them up the following season. Keogh came up against that Foxes side that got promoted at the end of the 2013/14 campaign and he is anticipating that Pearson will bring the same qualities to Derby next term. The Rams’ squad will return for pre-season training early next month and Keogh, the club’s Player of the Year for 2015/16, says Pearson will have a great platform to build on to push Derby on to another level. He added: “Everyone has seen the job that he did there and I think we can expect that he will bring a lot of that to this football club. “I have seen what he has said about the group that we have got and the infrastructure that is in place and I think with all that, and the qualities he will bring, he has got a real platform to come in and really push us on. “We want to be going for promotion, we want to get out of this league and by the sounds of what he is saying he wants to achieve exactly the same thing too. “I’m really looking forward to working with him and hopefully we can get to where we want to get to.”
June 8, 20169 yr Well when Giles Barnes used to post on the DET forum he appeared to nothing about anything.
June 8, 20169 yr Players i would imagine get told on a need to know basis, and at the end of the day are just employees with no reason to be informed of any day to day runnings of the club including any internal appointments. The captain may be informed of an appointment to be passed on to other team members rather than being informed by media. Remember half these players are kids, with no or very little experience of anything other than football ,living in a bubble with a different outlook and prespective to life than your average paying public, and from some performances last season they couldnt remember their own job description so confusing them with internal issues probably not a good idea. All they now need to know is NP is on board and it will be his way or the highway

Those who think he's **** are idiots and expect our CB to be as good as fookin Maldini!! He's not brilliant, but he was our best, most consistent player this season and gave 100% every game. Deserved everything he got this season and hope he does well in the euro's.
June 8, 20169 yr First thing Pearson should do is set up a WhatsApp group called 'DCFC players' so they can be communicated the latest news:- I'm thinking things like, er, when a new head scout arrives. When they get into it the players can wish each other a happy birthday and post pictures of their new cars through class leading end to end encryption.
June 9, 20169 yr If my last work wattsapp group is anything to go by it'll be descending into lurid jokes before you can say Willie. Still, it made team management meetings go faster
June 9, 20169 yr When things are happening close season it makes sense that they get their news through the press. When things are developing mid season with regards to a change in manager or staff, im sure they are kept up to speed either through official means, or from word of mouth and seeing the people around the club who can comment on, and influence those decisions.
