Coventry City FC official statement on Butts Park Arena talks...

Coventry City FC can confirm that long dated talks have been held with the Butts Park Arena and Coventry Rugby Club on a future ground-share deal.

Whilst the club still has two years left on the current deal with the Ricoh Arena, it is important that the club continues to work towards securing it's long-term future.

Coventry City FC are committed to competing at the highest possible level and for the club to continue to progress, it is essential that both matchday and non-matchday revenue potential can be realised.

The club would like to stress that no decision has been finalised as talks are ongoing, and we aim to keep supporters informed of future developments.

Moving to a 3,000 capacity 'stadium'? The Ricoh holds over 32,000. It doesn't strike me as an ambitious move.

Moving to the Ricoh in the first place was an overly ambitious move. Coventry struggled to fill Highfield Road in the Premiership. They may have negotiated a better deal after moving back from Sixfields, but I know that the initial lease was incredibly unfavourable to the club, with Coventry needing to almost fill the Ricoh every game just to break even. Obviously Butts Park will need lots of work doing on it, but that expansion will ultimately prove cheaper than being charged through the nose by whoever owns the Ricoh. I'm not sure what's going to happen to Coventry RFC in the long term after the league disgracefully allowed Wasps to set up shop on their turf.

Whenever you feel down about Derby just remember... there's clubs like Coventry and Blackpool.

Got to feel for Blackpool in particular.
