Derby County v Hull City

Recommended Posts

Saturday 14th May -12.30 ko

Home or away first leg of no consequence. Lets bang the drum, fly the flags, wave the scarves and roar til we're raw.

Brucey your guys are gonna get a good spanking (again). Even without GT our lads will run their statuesque midfield in to the ground.

Confident???? You betcha.

Think we'll win???? Yup

Player for player the only player i would select ahead of out first choice 11 would be Hernandez and even that is only a maybe.

We keep a clean sheet we will be Wembley bound. I'm actually pricing up train tickets to London as i pen this thread.

Lets 'ave it. COYR.

Rams 2 - 'ull 0

Carson

Christie    Keogh    Shackell    Olsson

Johnson

Bryson          Hughes

Russell                                         Ince

Martin

This team is the one I am totally ready for it and I am sure the players will. We need high intesity and pressure from the off their immobile midfield wont be able to cope. Lets do it for Georgie!!!

I'm still confident we can beat these over 2 legs and if we produce a masterclass in the first leg, catch them with their pants down at the IPRO we can take a 2 goal cushion back to the KC, if we only win by the odd goal or a draw that team above is still capable of nicking a win or hanging on for a draw to to see us through to Wembley, would be nice to win 2-0 in the first leg and go there knowing a single goal loss will see us through. COYR!!!!!!!!

you'd take a non natural right back whos been c**p most of the season under christie? and abel hernandez also? surely chris martin for his sheer consistency as a goalscorer.

V harsh Burton Ram. Done my time past 2 years. Started enough threads in rams chat to warrant a match thread start.

I've just realised that my post may have come across as slightly negative towards you, I didn't mean it to come out like that. No offence intended mate, I was being serious when I mentioned starting the thread on the opening day of the season.:thumbsup:

Abel Hernandez is a better player than Martin for me. Martin fits into our system perfectly but put him in any other team he is average like with Scotland. We dont even know how Martin will react to the premier league, whereas Hernandez did ok in one of most defensive leagues in europe in serie a and has a decent goalscoring record for his national side. Not sure why you have highlighted Shackell, who would you have over him? El Mohammedy is a better defender than Christie for me, 1 bad season wont change and he was one of the most consistent right backs in the premier league last year, 1 bad season won't change that. Christie at his peak will probably be better  I'd take ElMohammedy over him based on his experience and versatility.

I believe we will win this 2-0. If we really play to our full potential then I think we will have enough over two legs to see off Hull, as we have shown this season.

Never thought I'd say this but having seen his tackling and maturity over the last couple of games it's Hughsey at DM for me.

he couldn't do it 2 seasons ago but he's grown and developed. L

Our system needs someone who can distribute from the back .. I don't think Johnson is the man to do that. He is better fighting midfield battles in a more advanced position. Of course I'd prefer Will weaving magic on the edge of the box but without George or Jamie then we need him elsewhere

We've put ourselves in a very difficult position, with all our choices for CDM being bad:

1) Play Hughes and significantly diminish his attacking threat;

2) Play Johnson who has strength if in the mood, but can't pass and isn't fit;

3) Play Baird, brought back from loan specifically to understudy Thorne in the role, but a defender at heart and not the quarterback our system requires (and I don't think he was playing at Fulham so not fit either);

4) Play Hendrick there who's strong, but isn't fit, doesn't have the intelligence for the role and is too easily caught in possession;

5) Play Butterfield who lacks the physicality (people don't seem to notice Hughes, by contrast, is always around the top of the division"s tackling stats).

All very frustrating. I love the understanding Hughes has with Ince, our two most technically gifted players, but sadly I think it has to go. Hughes at the back and Bryson and Butterfield further forward. If it's not working and we're being overpowered, then hope either Hendrick or Johnson is fit enough to come on and play again a few days later.

I like Butterfield a lot, but he's almost picked up the Dawkins role of clearly a good footballer but not seemingly imposing himself on the team. As one poster has said, he couldn't tackle a fish supper, at least he has more of shot the poor old Dawkins ever had.

I totally agree, Hughes isn't tall and stong like Johnson or Hendrick, but can make a good challenge and is a wee terrier and got more bite than people think.

Hughes is my choice to fill in at CDM because even though it means he isn't further forward, he is better at it than the other choices. I'd be tempted to have Johnson in the team as well to add Physical presence, but you have to tell Johnson to just play his game and i just suspect Hughes plus Bryson and Hedrick or Butterfield might get bullied a bit too much.

Shame Hanson is injured, as he's probably the natural replacement, certainly in the defensive sense.

Baird seems to have not been getting in the Fulham team so maybe is just getting to the point his legs are going.

Another excellent post Carl. I did my concise effort on this topic somewhere else on here.

We need an early goal against Hull and a two goal margin after the first leg or I think that we are in trouble. Bruce is fighting for his job or a better one somewhere else. How will the players react to the loss of Thorne? A brave face will be seen but we only have one George Thorne and the players know it. If all the fans on here had digested your post, how many would have played Thorne against Ipswich? I do not at this time think that we will knock Hull out unless our chance taking is better than it has been.

Let's forget the 0-2 and 4-0, well almost. I think the 0-2 was underestimating the Rams and the 4-0 was a one off, still it will stil be a worry to them, especially if we go one up.

Hull are a good team with good players ( I would imagine their wage bill would be a worry for the FFP?), I expect them to defend at the iPro and try to make sure they don't concede. Their place has become a fortress and I think we are the only ones to win there and they will know that.

i have feeling we could end up with 2 draws here but home for a Rams win

For me, Hughes showed that he can play the holding role against Wednesday (he seems to have become outstanding at tackling since his return), and whilst I like Butterfield, I think we have to play Johnson to add that steel that we lose from Thorne's absence. Also, let's not forget who Johnson's last game was against and how well he did.

So ready for this game, my nerves are in shreds already. I'll be getting the train from Burton on my own as my mum is running in an Ultramarathon this weekend, so I'll be flying the flag for the BurtonRam family on my own for this one.:)

Let's do this man proud:
