Derby County are ready to rival Norwich City for highly-rated York City youngster Ben Godfrey, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Godfrey has attracted the interest of a number of clubs higher up the football pyramid after impressing for League Two strugglers York.

Norwich have been leading the chase for Godfrey and have already seen one bid turned down by York for the midfielder.

Godfrey is keen on leaving York after turning down a professional contract at Bootham Cresent and he remains on a scholarship deal.

Norwich remain in talks about striking a deal with York, but the League Two club are remaining steadfast in not allowing the player to leave on the cheap.

However, Derby have now registered their interest to York in signing Godfrey and are hoping to beat Premier League Norwich to the 17-year-old's signature.

York face just getting a compensation fee for the youngster in January as he is not on professional terms at the club, but Derby are hoping to agree a fee for the player to enable them to bring him to the iPro Stadium.

Who said O'Dowda was happening? I was informed that it should, not that it was 100%.

Seems more of an interest in Ben Godfrey rather than anything concrete

Erm Bris... Maybe you should stick with putting these rumours in the rumours thread rather than creating new topics? Just to stop the haters complaining...

I assume you wrote the article based on a rumour you heard?

I didn't write the article, and the person who did is very much connected throughout English football.

Clickbait also has an article around how Norwich have made a second bid just a few days ago, seems like they just have an article that they paste and replace the interested teams, reckon Nixon could get a job here :-)

HITC could do an article covering David Bowie's death and you still wouldn't believe it.

Like you say, good to be linked with the lower league's best talent. O'Dowda, Godfrey, Chaplin... It's definitely a good way to go in terms of sustained success. Spurs have mopped up the best talent for years.

I'd love for us to go down the same route. Even if they don't work out. All it will take is one or two to really come off and a later sale would cover the lot.

I tend not to believe anything from journalists that are in the know, their job is to sell stories and good luck to them, but for me they to bend the truth in a lot of instances.

Pee taking aside, better to see these articles than not, no harm in them.

I didn't even write the article you numpty. I think I already posted that? The person that did is well-informed. He has like more Twitter followers than Ipswich Town for crying out loud.

Hardly your average Joe Bloggs making stuff up for a laugh..

The only John August I know was a screenwriter on the film Big Fish:

And I wouldn't use twitter followers as a measure of knowledge... Kim Kardashian has loads of followers...
