New Director of Communications - a bit of controversy?

Derby appointed Paul Tyrrell as their new Director of Communications yesterday, but it seems he has a bit of a controversial past, having compared Liverpool fans to the Khmer Rouge and targeting local journalists. For a man who is in charge of communication, it seems like a shocking thing to do.

This from JayMcKenna, Chair of the Spirit of Shankly group

I know it's all in the past and nothing to do with Derby, but it's not the most squeaky clean appointment the Club has made. Be interesting if they make any statement on it (although I doubt they will)

Just the thought of Ramstrust brings me out in hives.

In years to come, you will come to blame RamsTrust for the isolation and eventual departure of Simon Dawkins

It's no more ill-conceived an analogy than Graham Richards infamous "twin towers" remark. You can see what he meant but it was a poor choice of comparison

That Liverpool Echo report is hilarious really - a textbook example of histrionic Liverpool fans making a mountain out of a molehill to compensate for the fact that they have been crap for the past 20 years

Didn't realise communicating was so hard.

It isn't.

Tell em what you're going to tell em, tell em, tell em what you told em.

In summary, do an introduction, do the main spiel and then do a recap. Or when talking to scousers, a re-hubcap.

If they've been crap for 20 years and managed to win the Champions League, FA cup twice and League cup thrice in that time, I want to be crap too.

EDIT - also young as I was when I heard that commentary, even I realised at the time what Graham Richards said was pretty awful.
