Can football use other sports to improve?

Are there any features or rules of other sports you think could be incorporated in to football to improve it? Obviously we took video technology which was present in other sports. I would personally like to see a bonus point system like in rugby. For example if a side scored 4 goals in a game for instance you get a bonus point. Would encourage teams to carry on pressing and attacking and discourage some sides from getting a 2 or 3 nil lead and just sitting on it.

What about stoppage time? Stop the clock, restart it when the play resumes then once the ball goes out of play after the 45 or 90 are up, the games over?

Whilst the time thing is a good idea, it opens things up for the referee having to match his watch to the clock for tv and the scoreboard etc. stoppages to re-sync clock etc.

Video to the next level with a 4th official watching the monitor in the stands, when the ref doesn't see that handball the box, the foul in the box, the off the ball incidents. Game can be stopped immediately with  the 4th official letting the ref via the mic.

Especially with all those SkyTV cameras everywhere, it might actually speed up the game?

On the timing issue, every time the ref blows for freekick, for throw ins, goal kicks etc.... the game would end up lasting 3 hours like in NFL. The players wouldnt last the game.

Dont like the bonus point idea.

Thirdly I dont think football has gone far enough with technology for goal line clearences only.

Rugby, NFL and others use video technology better than we currently do in football. They should use it for offsides and slow motion penalty appeals etc. The birmingham penalty against cardiff wouldnt have happened with video technology.... since the shot hit his face not his hand.

I actually think football would be better with a tennis style umpire than a running referee.

Players should be allowed to use those tee things for free kicks like they use in Rugby.

Also the scoring system from basketball, 3points for a shot from outside the area, 2points for a goal, 1point for a penalty.

Boxing - Ring girls should parade around with the numbers for subs and added time instead of the fourth official.

Egg chasing - Only the captain can raise issues with the ref. If you swear at him you get a yellow/red.

Ice Hockey - If two players agree to a scrap they don't get sent off, but have a five minute penalty to cool off/receive stitches. Fists only, no kicking or butting.

Sin bin

One of the things that has crept into the game is the deliberate foul outside the penalty box , e.g. stopping breakaways by the opposition by rugby tackling an opponent, even if it is near the half way line i.e. "taking one for the team". Always seems to me that awarding a yellow card doesn't help the offended team at all. They have had a good chance to maybe have a goal-scoring opportunity taken away from them. Sin bin might be the answer

Agree with the captain only speaking to the refs.  Can't feckin stand seeing a bunch of players surrounding the ref.  Can remember they tried to stamp down on it a few seasons again but it soon got brushed under the carpet cus Fergie was moaning at his players picking up needless yellows every game...

Mic up refs... Watch behaviour improve all of a sudden, take timekeeping away from ref...

Ball in and out and goal yes or no for video technology only... I'm not really one for it as if we start introducing it for penalties etc... You'll get "creep" whereas managers will start demanding "referrals" etc...

Like both of these ideas. How long until the FA actually try to clean up all this childish behavior. It's embarrassing!

If you attend a kids game now you see so many of them shouting at the ref and play acting.
