Why did Leia hug Rey? shes family. You wait, that will be the reveal in Episode VIII - Rey is Kylo Rens sister or Lukes daughter

Maybe but whey just slip in a little scene alluding to that???  I felt short changed a little because the first films of both trilogies (A New Hope) & (Phantom Menace) are self contained stories.  There are threads to be picked up in later films but the questions they pose during the films are answered, where as this one didn't

No spoilers in this post.......

I have to say a totally loved it, every second of it.

So many nods and references to the first 3 it was as if the second three never existed. It felt like the film that the phantom menace should have been.

Great baddie (great actor playing him too) and some really likeable good guys and girls too and the new  droid introduction is awesome

the next one will be very interesting to see where they go with Ray

and I even got interviewed for American TV as I left te mike theatre, I made sure I spoke in a really thick Derby accent for them, "it was rate good me duck"

Unrelated, but did you get a mench on the Football Ramble a few weeks back?

Just back from the cinema… awesome film for Star Wars nerds, especially those of us that were around 30+ years ago – goes straight in at No.1 in the SW saga

New cast were great, old cast did their job, story was typical SW and recaptured the original trilogy for a new generation. Sets up episode 8 nicely.

I’d give the movie 8/10 as its nothing ground breaking but a 9/10 for SW aficionado’s, hoping for something a little new in the next one though.

In short, don’t miss it!

I will add that I agree with Ramsbottom on a couple of points though... Capt Phasma served no purpose in the film and 'that' scene was glossed over far to quickly.  I was also left with a few nagging questions that will irritate me until I find suitable answers.

The most fun I've ever had with the star wars franchise is laughing at how appalling the prequels were. I was disappointed when Lucas sold the franchise since although Disney won't make any really great star wars films they won't make any hilariously bad ones as that might negatively effect their merchandising efforts.

Ha ha yep I did. The highlight of my existence so far.! I let my wife listen to it and she still didn't get it.

A few years (ok, it seems like hundreds) ago, I was taking part in the British Open and was doing pretty well after the first half a dozen games, so ended up being interviewed by the BBC for the sports section on Midlands Today or something like that.

A few nights later I was at Ilson Bowl for a league match and people were saying "Don't you talk posh on t'telly?".

Class traitor, me.

I thought it was good, especially the first two-thirds. The end sequence left a bit to be desired, reminded all of us WAY too much of A New Hope, even if that was Abrams' intention. I like John Boyega and Poe is pretty badass. Daisy Ridley's acting was a bit hit-and-miss although I do like her character and wonder whose kid she is.

With regards to the fight, I reckon Kylo Ren lost because he was pretty banged up. He'd been shot by Chewbacca and injured by Finn. Plus his mind was in a bad way, or something. Rey's instant mastery of the force was still a bit annoying though.

I hope they give us another Jedi or two in the next film, if it's just Luke and Rey it's like Luke and Obi-Wan/Luke and Yoda all over again. Finn used the lightsaber I suppose but I'm pretty sure we know he doesn't have the force.

One minor problem that's just occurred to me with Rey. Whilst she's a great character, and Daisy Ridley is deservedly getting plaudits, I can't quite put myself in her shoes like I could with Luke as a kid due to her keeping secrets from us. Luke had secrets kept from him, rather than him keeping secrets from other characters and the audience. So that pathos isn't quite there with Rey in that respect. Although she's significantly less whiny than Luke in the original film she's actually being a bit emo. It's a minor issue and one that will be rectified in time, but for a film that looks to be the establishing film I guess that qualifies as a criticism. At least it actually had a main hero though, unlike the prequels.

Great film, just seen it. although SPOILERSSSSSSSSSSS

ZOOM PAST HERE IF YOU DONT WANT TO READ

I thought kylo renn was a bit pathetic seen as finn and daisy riddleys character (i forget her name) had no jedi training yet still both gave him a run for his money during the lightsaber fight and hes supposed to have been doing this for years. Still, very good film, possibly even the best thus far for me. Can't wait for the next one when hopefully we get to see how powerful luke has become.

Thought it was great - seemed so more 'real' than the prequels not relying as much on CGI.

Saw it in 3d and not sure 3d added much though.

Think it was Kathleen Kennedy said all the cast shown at the premier would return.

New Hope (part 4 in star wars land) and Empire are great...shame about the added cgi though (lucas...wtf?) Saw Jedi again for the first time
in years. Not too bad until the Ewoks get involved (lucas...wtf part2!)

Of the recent films...seen part 1 a couple of times..not bad. Part 2 and 3...only seen the once and if someone can explain what's going on, I would be most grateful.
